Cold-formed Z-purlins are thin enough that local, distortional, or global buckling can govern before the steel yields, and checking each mode separately is tedious. 🏗️

The Steel Design add-on in RFEM 6 designs cold-formed members according to AISI S100-16 and CSA S136-16 in the same model as the rest of the structure. It applies the Direct Strength Method (DSM), numerically via the Finite Strip Method (FSM) or analytically per the code, and lets you view buckling curves and mode shapes right in the section data. 🔩

To our brothers and sisters affected by the devastating flash floods, our hearts break alongside yours. We stand in deep solidarity with every family mourning the unimaginable loss of their loved ones. Please accept our most profound condolences for the departed souls. For those who are still stranded or missing, we hold onto hope, offering our continuous prayers for their swift rescue and safe recovery.

This profound tragedy serves as a stark, humbling reminder of our place in the natural world. As we witness the destruction of bridges and buildings, we must honestly admit a harsh truth: the structural "factor of safety" we rely on in our engineering designs is ultimately nothing against the raw, unfathomable forces of nature. The Himalayan region is as fragile as it is majestic, and this disaster proves that we must be extremely careful when carrying out any developmental activities in these sensitive terrains.

True progress cannot be built in defiance of the earth's limits. We must learn from this—we can live in sync with nature, but never against it. Moving forward, our infrastructure and development must respect the boundaries of our environment, prioritizing ecological balance over blind expansion.

May the strength of the community shine through this dark hour. Our thoughts, prayers, and tears are with you all.

Connection design usually means exporting forces from your structural model into a separate joint-design program. The Steel Joints add-on in RFEM 6 skips that step: connections are designed inside the same global model, using CBFEM. 🏗️

Internal forces transfer automatically, and the add-on can calculate the connection's real initial stiffness (rigid, semi-rigid, or pinned) instead of forcing you to guess.

Design checks follow EN 1993-1-8, AISC 360, and CSA S16. 🔩

A steel hall's main beams carry real bending moment, so a standard stability check gets run and a critical load factor comes back. Job done? Not always. 🏗️

A standard 6 DOF stability run only catches flexural buckling. It misses lateral-torsional buckling risk from those same bending moments, which is exactly what RFEM 6's Torsional Warping (7 DOF) add-on is built to catch, right in the same model. 🔩

Designing metal buildings? Stop using separate tools and manual checks for hot-rolled steel frames and cold-formed purlins/girts!

Join this technical session to see how RFEM 6 streamlines your workflow in a single FE model:

✅ One Model: Analyze hot-rolled & cold-formed members together.
✅ Indian Codes: Perform simultaneous design checks against IS 800 & AISI S100.
✅ Global Standards: Seamlessly integrate EC3, AISC, and other standards for international projects.

Hot-rolled main frame, cold-formed purlins: one steel shed, but normally two different design checks run in two different tools. 🏗

RFEM 6 with the Steel Design add-on lets you handle both in a single model. Hot-rolled members are checked against IS 800:2007, and cold-formed members against AISI S100, already a common reference for Indian pre-engineered building purlins and girts, plus other international codes such as Eurocode when needed.

We're bringing Dlubal Software to India, and we want to show the SEFI community how it actually works, not just tell you about it. 🔩

🚨 Late July 2026: a magnitude 7.1 earthquake hit Kumamoto, Japan.

The buildings didn't collapse. But many couldn't be used right after.

That's the real challenge in structural engineering today.

Preventing collapse isn't enough anymore. Buildings now need to stay usable immediately after a major quake. This standard is called "Immediate Occupancy."

As India's cities grow taller and busier, our engineering community has a big role to play here. 🏗️
