Our Story
Hi, I’m Justin Smith, and I’m the point leader for Tandem Collective. I have been involved in Family Ministry, at every age and stage, over the past 23 and you know what I’ve discovered? Leading alone is not only hard and overwhelming, it’s also arrogant and dangerous to those under your influence. You know how I know that? Because I spent so many years trying to do it all on my own. I had a couple of great reasons for doing this:
First off, a lot of what we did was new, we were pioneering ministry in rural communities and support in our field just didn’t exist in many arenas.
But the second “great” reason, was that I was convinced that in order to be a “real leader” I had to figure things out for myself, do it all by myself and bear the weight of it all alone. Did I mention that leading alone can be arrogant and dangerous? It is dangerous to you, to your family, to the people around you and to the people you lead.
After nearly burning out of ministry, I began to realize that I was never meant to lead alone and I came back into family ministry with a new vision and perspective. Not only is my passion for families, but also for family ministry leaders. And I began to collect every deposit of truth and wisdom shared with me, every tip and trick we picked up along the journey, every word of wisdom from another leader to share with you.
