Parentkind We are the trusted voice for parents in education and the membership association for PTAs in schools.

When our charity was first set up over 60 years ago, our goal was to advance education by encouraging homes and schools to work together; helping parents to have a voice in their child’s school and at a national level. In the last few years we have gone back to these roots by supporting and championing all the ways that parents can get involved in their child’s education and school. In 2018 we changed from PTA UK to Parentkind. Our new name reflects the diversity of our members and our work to support parent participation in schools and education more generally. Through our Parentkind page and eBulletin we will:
• keep parents informed about proposed or actual changes in education policy
• share research and offer advice to parents to help them support and get more involved in their child’s education
• grow a friendly community for parents to ask questions and their share experiences of all things education
• provide information to help with the key educational milestones (starting school, exams, transition etc.)
• offer guidance on developing a good home/school partnership

Reading gives children more than stories

The National Literacy Trust found that many young people read because it makes them feel happy, while others say reading helps them feel more confident and supports them when dealing with challenges.

Small reading moments add up. Celebrate progress, not perfection, and let your child read in the way that works best for them.

We are grateful to our 2026 National Parent Survey patron, VenturEd Solutions, for their support in helping us amplify the voices of parents across the UK.

Their backing enables us to reach more families, build a richer picture of parents’ experiences and priorities, and ensure that parent voice continues to inform the conversations and decisions that affect children, families and education.

Books can open doors to new ideas, experiences and emotions.

Research by The Reader found that reading helps many people feel more connected to others and less alone.

Shared reading and talking about stories can also create opportunities for meaningful conversations between parents and children.

Ask your child ‘Which character did you relate to most and why?’

You might be surprised where the conversation leads.
