Did you know Georgia's first female mayor was elected in Gwinnett? Roughly two years after women gained the right to vote, Alice Strickland, a widow and mother of seven, made history when she was elected mayor of Duluth in 1922.

Dedicated to serving and conserving her community, she also opened her home for use as a medical clinic for pediatric care and donated a portion of her land, organizing Georgia's first conservation forest.

From the mayor's office to the boxing ring, tomorrow we’ll meet a Gwinnett-born fighter who became a world heavyweight champion.
