A commitment to mining safety can make a difference throughout an entire career.

Jim Popowich spent four decades working in Canada's mining industry and was a dedicated advocate for health, safety and responsible mining practices.

To honour his legacy, his wife, Laverne Popowich, established an endowment through the CIM Foundation to support the next generation of health and safety expertise.

The Jim Popowich Mining Endowment – Health & Safety Grants provide two $750 grants to help mining professionals pursue health and safety certification.

If you or someone in your network is looking to develop their skills in this area, this opportunity is worth exploring.

What makes a strong local mining community? The people who bring it together.

As co-chair of the CIM Vancouver Branch, Tuan Truong has helped turn local events into opportunities for mining professionals to connect, share experiences and build lasting relationships.

A recipient of the CIM Distinguished Service Award, Tuan believes that volunteering is about much more than professional networking. It's also about friendships, community and giving back to an industry that has shaped your career.

And you don't need decades of experience to make a contribution.

Whether you're a student, an early-career professional or an established industry leader, your local CIM branch offers opportunities to get involved.

Could volunteering with your local branch be your next step?

Who comes to mind when you think of excellence in Canada's mining industry?

It could be someone who has spent decades giving back to the profession, made an important technical contribution or helped strengthen the mining community through their leadership.

Four of CIM's most prestigious awards celebrate outstanding service, professional achievement and practical contributions to mining:

✨ CIM Fellowship
✨ CIM Distinguished Service Medal
