Public schools are required to serve every student with a disability. The state decides how much of that cost it pays back.

This year the state budget promised districts 42%. They received about 38%, roughly $140 million less than expected. Private voucher schools are reimbursed for 90% of their special education costs and paid in full.

Every dollar the state doesn't pay comes out of local school budgets and, too often, local property taxes at referendum. It's time for Wisconsin to meet its obligation to students with disabilities.

Confused by Wisconsin’s constitutional amendments? Honestly, we understand.

This November, voters will see three proposed changes to our state Constitution. The official wording can be difficult to understand, so we made a plain-language cheat sheet explaining:

▪️ What each amendment would change
▪️ What a YES vote means
▪️ What a NO vote means

Read the guide before you vote, print a copy or share it with someone who may need help understanding the questions.
