Hazel's House We are a foster based, 501c3 non-profit animal rescue based in Newberg, Oregon. We are an all volunteer, foster based 501c3 non profit program.
(4)

We help animals from all over Oregon, parts of Washington, and from high kill animal shelters out of state when possible. Hazel's House Rescue has been helping cats and kittens since October of 2017 and dogs/puppies since 2021. We take in cats, kittens, dogs, and puppies from all over Oregon and when possible help with animals from high kill states. We can assist with pregnant or nursing moms cats

or dogs, kittens (all ages), adults cats, puppies, and adult dogs. We also have resources for low cost spay and neuters, TNR, and food help. Our adoption process is lengthy, but worth all the steps. We are only looking for the very best fit for the animals in our care. Its never first come first adopt - rather- the purrrfect home. Our overall goal is to help with overpopulation one animal at a time.

Please welcome Taco and Penelope to Hazel's House Rescue.

Their story is one that we hear far too often. Their mom is moving into a one bedroom home with another person and was faced with an incredibly difficult decision. She could only take her two senior dogs, which meant she needed to find a safe place for Taco and Penelope.

For Taco, this is unfortunately another chapter in a journey that has already included a lot of change. He was adopted from a local rescue about a year ago and, before that, appears to have come from another state after being surrendered or found as a stray. Now he finds himself starting over once again. Alongside him is Penelope, his 3 month old puppy.

When they arrived, they were understandably scared, confused, and heartbroken as they watched their mom walk out the door. Everything they knew had suddenly changed. They spent their first hours shut down and unsure of what was happening.

Slowly, they began to trust. First they made friends with me, then with their foster. Every small tail wag, every curious glance, and every moment of courage is a reminder that healing takes time.
Right now, Taco and Penelope don't need anything except patience, consistency, and love. They need the chance to decompress, learn that they are safe, and understand that they won't be abandoned again.

We will give them all the time they need.
Welcome to Hazel's House Rescue, Taco and Penelope. Your next chapter starts here. ❤️

Rhubarb Update ❤️

Rhubarb is doing well.

She is peeing a lot right now, but that is likely due to the medications she recently started. The best news is that she is eating more, which makes all of us very happy. She absolutely loves having the top of her head scratched and will happily soak up all the affection you are willing to give.

As many of you know, Rhubarb is an older girl. Once we feel she is stable and her medical conditions are being managed, we may begin looking for a hospice home. However, we want to make sure she is doing okay before we get to that point.

The reality is that we don't know how much time Rhubarb has left. We would be thrilled if we can give her a few good weeks. We would be grateful for a few good months. We'd be overjoyed with a year. And if we're lucky enough to have several years with her, that would be incredible.

Rhubarb's intake and care are about humanity.

We know she will likely never be the cat that has dozens of adoption applications. We know her time is limited. We know her medical bills will continue to grow. But we take on cases like Rhubarb because the animals are what matter.

Every animal deserves kindness. Every animal deserves comfort. Every animal deserves to know love, regardless of their age, medical condition, or how much time they have left.

No matter how long Rhubarb has, she will spend it knowing warmth, love, medical care, full meals, soft places to sleep, and people who care about her.

And at the end of the day, that's what matters.

Fire season is here in Oregon and Washington, and while I hope it isn't terrible, forecasts aren't exactly predicting an easy season. The biggest thing I can say is: be prepared.

Remember 2020 when we had fires near Hagg Lake, Salem, and the Molalla area? Were you prepared? Many families had little notice before needing to evacuate. Take a moment this summer to prepare, just in case. It's always better to be prepared and not need it than to need it and not be prepared.

Things to consider:

• Have a crate or carrier for every cat, rabbit, ferret, guinea pig, bird, or other small animal in your household.

• Make sure all microchip information is current and registered with up-to-date contact information.

• For livestock owners, practice loading animals before an emergency occurs. Map out evacuation routes and keep non-nylon halters and lead ropes readily available.

• Ensure your dogs have properly fitted collars, ID tags, and leashes that are easy to access.

• Keep medications, prescription foods, and medical supplies packed and ready to go.

• Have copies of vaccination records and important veterinary records available.

• Create a list of places you can go in the event of an evacuation, including friends, family, boarding facilities, or pet-friendly hotels.

• Keep recent photos of your pets, including photos of you with them, in case ownership needs to be verified.

Wildfires can spread quickly, and evacuation orders can happen with very little warning. Taking a few minutes now to make a plan could save valuable time and reduce stress if an emergency occurs.

What steps have you taken to prepare your family and pets for fire season?

Intake Update: Part 2 of 2

On Saturday, sometime between 12:00 and 1:00 PM, two mama cats and five kittens were dumped on the porch of a home in plastic totes with very limited air holes.

As many of you remember, Saturday was hot, with temperatures reaching into the 80s. Being confined in totes during the hottest part of the day could have ended very differently. Thankfully, the homeowner found them quickly, but they were overheated, panting, and not in the best shape.

We know times can be incredibly tough, and we never know what circumstances someone may be facing. But abandoning animals in this manner is not safe, no matter how desperate the situation may feel.

The two moms are clearly bonded and appear to be sisters. At this point, we have no idea which kittens belong to which mom, and honestly, neither do they. These girls have fully embraced co-parenting and are raising all five kittens together.

Sound familiar? It reminds us a little of Pineapple and Feta, and later April and May.

The kittens are approximately 5 weeks old, although they are quite small for their age. We'll be working hard to get everyone healthy, growing, and thriving.

We'd like to officially introduce:

Intake Update: Part 1 of 2

Today we welcomed 8 new intakes into Hazel's House Rescue.

The first little one, now officially named Pickles, was found crying in some bushes. A kind community member spent hours searching for his mom and any siblings but had no luck. Wanting to make sure he was safe, they reached out to several rescues before we said yes.

Some of you may remember Cornelius, our bottle baby. While he's been thriving, we've started to see a little bit of that infamous single kitten syndrome creeping in. Kittens learn important social skills from other kittens, and having a companion can make a huge difference in their development.

The good news? Pickles and Cornelius were instant friends.

Pickles gets a playmate, a cuddle buddy, and someone to help him learn the ropes. Cornelius gets the companionship he needs, and in return, he's already helping Pickles build confidence and settle into rescue life.

We can't wait to watch these two grow up together, and we have a feeling they're going to be quite the adorable duo.

Keep an eye out for updates on Pickles and Cornelius over the next few weeks.

Stay tuned for Part 2 of our intake journey, where we'll share the story of two moms and five kittens.

Today feels like the perfect time to say thank you.

Hazel's House Rescue would not be what it is today without the incredible people and organizations who stand beside us every single day. While our name may be on the paperwork, every life we save is the result of a community coming together for animals in need.

To our donors who help cover medical bills, provide food, litter, and supplies, and step up whenever an emergency arises, thank you.

To our volunteers who give their time sorting donations, helping at events, transporting animals, and tackling the countless behind-the-scenes tasks that keep us running, thank you.

To our fosters who open their homes and hearts to animals in need, celebrate their victories, and help them heal, thank you.

To our board members who help guide the organization, make difficult decisions, and ensure we can continue growing responsibly, thank you.

To our veterinary partners who answer our calls, fit us into already busy schedules, provide compassionate care, and help us give animals the medical attention they deserve, thank you. We simply could not do this work without you.

To our rescue partners who collaborate with us, share resources, offer guidance, step in when help is needed, and work together toward the common goal of helping animals, thank you. Rescue is strongest when we work together.

To our adopters, followers, cheerleaders, and supporters who share our posts, encourage our fosters, celebrate our successes, and help spread our mission, thank you.

Every animal we save, every family we help through our community outreach programs, every adoption, every late-night emergency, and every second chance is possible because of this incredible village.

We have grown tremendously over the years, and that growth is a direct reflection of the kindness, dedication, and generosity of all of you. Rescue is never a one-person job. It takes a team, and we are fortunate to have an amazing one.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for believing in Hazel's House Rescue, supporting our mission, and helping us change lives every single day. We are grateful for each and every one of you. ❤️🐾

We know we just asked for wet food, dry food, and litter, but if we're being honest, Sunday changed everything.
We brought in 8 to 9 foster homes that are now caring for more than 30 additional kittens. Just like that, nearly half of the supplies that came in were gone.

The reality of kitten season is that it moves fast. An average kitten eats 2 to 3 cans of wet food per day. When you have 60 to 70 kittens in care, seven days a week, the amount of food needed adds up quickly. The same goes for litter. We go through an incredible amount every single week just to keep everyone clean, healthy, and comfortable.

We hate asking again so soon, but the need is real. Right now, wet kitten food and litter are our biggest needs.

We are incredibly grateful for this community and know that our supporters always step up when the animals need them most. If you can help with a donation of food or litter, we would appreciate it more than you know.

Thank you for helping us care for these little ones until they find families of their own. ❤️
