The Student Veterans Association is hosting a Veterans Day 5k at the University of Dayton on Saturday, November 5th!

The event is a run/walk, not just for active runners!

Register by October 14th to be guaranteed a t-shirt. Please register as soon as possible!

This is the first time the event has been held in person since before Covid and we are so excited to celebrate with you and your families!

Proceeds from the race will be going to Dayton Honor Flight and the other portion will be contributed to veteran student events such as trips and SVA conferences.

I just wanted to reach out to let you know that the MVPS Center Flyer Funder fundraising campaign has gone live and is now accepting donations! Please feel free to check out the page. A number of our student employees, members of the Student Veteran Association, ROTC Cadets, and staff members volunteered to assist with putting this together! We have an initial goal of $5,000 with stretch goals if we surpass it! Lastly, please know that any donation made on the page through April 14th also counts towards AALI's percentage % (or if you are not in AALI it counts towards your unit's participation - so try to beat us!) for One Day One Dayton. AALI has a goal of 80% participation this year and a donation of any amount counts!

The Project:

Our project is to launch a new student success center for all veterans, family members, and current service members who are attending the University of Dayton. This will allow us to connect with one another while building a supportive community that can assist with education benefits and facilitate academic success.

Who We Are:

The Military and Veteran Programs and Services (MVPS) Office, the Student Veteran Association (SVA), and family members

The Impact:

The MVPS Center will provide a centralized location to booster military-affiliated community morale, networking, and access to critical services and programming. For those who are not living on campus, it can give an opportunity to meet other veteran students. Additionally, a student center can bolster veteran success throughout the pursuit of their education. Recently transitioned service members can receive a warm welcome at the MVPS student center when they start their degree at the University of Dayton.

What Your Gifts Will Do:

Your gifts will allow us to equip the brand new MVPS student success space with top notch resources. The University of Dayton has covered essential startup costs and renovations; however, your donation will support important resources and events such as:

A military service flag display
A veteran/military resource lending library
Coffee for veteran and military affiliated students (similar to Java for GIs)
Printing for veteran and military affiliated students
Meaningful wall art and display case exhibits
New lounge furniture
SALUTE Veterans' National Honor Society student memberships
Bringing external military and veteran community resources to campus for co-curricular events
Sending veteran and military affiliated students off campus for team building and professional development opportunities

Don't forget our virtual Veterans Day 5k race is right around the corner! Registration is still open at Runsignup.com, the link is below. Even though we are still having a virtual event, this year's t-shirt will still be delivered with no extra cost to the address of your choice. Part of the proceeds will go to Dayton Honor Flight, a program committed to "taking veterans of the WWII, Korean Era, and Vietnam Era wars to see their national memorials in Washington, DC." Also this is the perfect way to dust off the COVID cobwebs and get outside and enjoy some sun. We hope to see you there! (In spirit)

Good morning all! This year's veteran's day will be celebrated slightly differently than previous years with a Virtual 5K. The signup link is on the website and we will be arranging t-shirts to be distributed to participants. Please spread the word and we hope to see you all participate! University of Dayton Veteran's Day 5K is on Friday November 6, 2020 to Friday November 13, 2020.

We hope our military family is enjoying their summer break! We have some things in the works for Fall Semester and we will work on announcing them as they become concrete and certain. UD has announced that some classes will be in person with restrictions such as masks and if they are smaller class sizes. A lot will probably be online, personally do not do great with an online format but will adjust as needed. Let’s all support each other through these changes and be the awesome SVA we are to make a greater impact on campus this year!

Please come join us for a UD student veteran group photo in one week on Thursday March 5th at 11:00 a.m.!

Who: UD Student Vets and Alum (Undergraduate and Graduate)
What: Group Picture
When: Thursday March 5th, 11:00 a.m. (ends at 12:00 p.m.)
Where: Meeting at Roesch Library, Ground Floor, Room 022
Why: To accurately depict our veteran community for use on the UD veteran website, MVPS pamphlet, physical display in the upcoming Student Veteran Center, etc (and to receive the UD Veterans T-Shirt)
How: We will take pictures inside and outside, candid, and organized

Concept of Operations:

UD student vets and recent alum will gather at 11:00 a.m. by Room 022 at Roesch Library and then move out to take some group pictures in order to accurately depict undergraduate and graduate student veterans at UD.

At 11:05 a.m. we will move as a group to the front stairs of Albert Emanuel Building, where we will take some pictures. We will then return to Roesch Library to take a few pictures inside by the fireplace on the ground floor. Weather dependent, we may take the pictures inside first, or additional pics outside. Students may lock their extra belongings in Sam Surowitz's office during the photoshoot. We should be mission complete by 12:00 p.m.

Please wear whatever you would normally wear to class or work. You want to be yourself, so dress comfortably and casually, unless your normally dress formally. The idea is to get some authentic pictures of our student veterans / recent alum, looking like themselves. Please avoid wearing apparel that has overt branding for other universities, etc.

These pictures will be used for the UD Veterans Website, pamphlets, student organizations, etc. Your participation is highly encouraged! (Please come!) Larry Burgess, UD's Photographer (the son of a Korean War Veteran), will take the pictures.

All student vets who attend will receive a University of Dayton - Veteran t-shirt! (Note - we might take one picture with the shirts on, however the Veteran shirt will not be worn in most pictures. If you have already received a UD Veteran t-shirt please bring it).
