Project SYNC

Directions

Project SYNC www.vwsd/sync.org Each and every day, our youth are faced with a wide variety of experiences and challenges, which ultimately impacts the learning process.

Community Partners include: The Vicksburg Police Department, Warren Yazoo Mental Health, Vicksburg Family Development, Warren County Youth Court, The Child Abuse Prevention Center and The Warren County Sheriff's Office. Unfortunately, some of these life experiences can negatively impede upon a student’s academic and social functioning. Through the Vicksburg Warren School District’s Safe Schools/Healthy Students Initiative, Project SYNC (Schools and Youth in a Networked Community) is taking a serious approach to ensure that social, emotional, and behavioral barriers to learning are addressed. Through the funding of this Initiative, program partners will provide intensive and ongoing student and family support services. These services include:
• School-based mental health and counseling
• Early intervention programming for at-risk students
• Mentoring
• Reintegration services
• And an assortment of evidence-based training

In July 2009, the Vicksburg Warren School District (VWSD) received the Safe Schools/Healthy Students Grant, a collaborative effort among the U.S. Department of Education, Health and Human Services, and the Department of Justice.
Our initiative, Project SYNC (Schools and Youth in a Networked Community), provides school-based mental health and other intervention services aimed at decreasing discipline events, improving attendance, promoting academic achievement, and ultimately, increasing the graduation rate.
