Over the past week, renewed conflict between Iran and Israel has severely escalated the humanitarian crisis in Israel. Iranian ballistic missiles and cluster bombs have caused widespread harm to Israeli civilians and civilian infrastructure. At least 24 Israelis have been killed, mostly women and children, and over 1,000 civilians have been injured. Attacks on residential areas have destroyed thousands of homes and displaced over 8,000 civilians. Operation Manna has documented strikes on Israeli educational, medical and religious infrastructure, including damage to five schools, ten school buses, a hospital, an ambulance, three synagogues and a mosque.

An elementary school in Ramat Gan was destroyed yesterday after being struck by a partially intercepted missile launched by the Houthi rebels in Yemen. This is the 11th school in Israel to be struck by missiles and drones since the start of the war on October 7th, 2023. Attacks on Israeli schools have come from 5 different armed forces operating in 5 different countries, including the Houthis in Yemen, Hezbollah in Lebanon, Hamas in Gaza, the Imam Hussein Brigade in Syria, and the Iranian armed forces. In the past week, two schools in Israel have been struck by Hezbollah rockets and drones. On November 20th, a Hezbollah rocket hit a kindergarten in Acre just half an hour after school had been released for the day. A week earlier, a Hezbollah su***de drone hit a kindergarten in Nasher. Since the start of the war, at least 10 schools in Israel have been damaged in rocket and drone attacks from Lebanon, Gaza, Syria and Iran. A Hezbollah rocket struck a synagogue in Haifa yesterday on Shabbat. Three synagogues have been destroyed by Hezbollah & Hamas rockets since the start of the war. Hezbollah rockets have also hit a church in Israel, wounding an elderly man and 9 rescue workers, and Hamas rockets hit a mosque in Israel, killing a Muslim civilian. In the past 24 hours, Hezbollah rocket and drone attacks caused 13 civilian casualties in Israel, including two fatalities today and injuries to a one-year-old girl and two teenagers. This morning, a Hezbollah drone struck a kindergarten in Nesher (near Haifa) while school was in session - the children were saved due to a teacher’s quick decision to evacuate them to a bomb shelter despite the failure to activate the sirens in the area. This is the 9th school in Israel to be damaged since the start of the war (the full list can be viewed in our database - link in bio). Additionally, numerous homes were destroyed in the Haifa area, and the impacts sparked fires throughout northern Israel.

At least 8 schools in Israel have been struck by missiles or drones since the start of the war in October 2023. Hamas rockets have hit 4 schools: two in Tel Aviv, one in Sderot, and one in Ramat HaSharon. Hezbollah rockets have hit 2 schools: one in Kibbutz Dafna, and a preschool in Kibbutz Haniya. A drone fired by an Iranian-backed militia in Syria struck a school in Eilat, where thousands of displaced Israelis were evacuated. And most recently, Iran’s ballistic missile attack destroyed a school in Gedera.

As Iran threatens to launch another attack on Israel, it is important to highlight the impact that Iran’s last ballistic missile attack had on Israeli civilians. While Iran’s October 1st attack failed to seriously harm Israel’s military capabilities, civilians across Israel were heavily impacted. Hundreds of homes in Hod HaSharon were destroyed; an elementary school in Gedera, which has 400 students, was destroyed; a restaurant and cars in Tel Aviv were destroyed. The ONLY casualties of Iran’s two ballistic missile attacks on Israel have been civilians: a 7-year-old Bedouin girl was severely injured in the first attack, and a Palestinian man was killed in the second attack.

Hundreds of thousands of civilians in Israel have been displaced for over a year due to attacks from Hezbollah and Hamas. Iran’s attacks further exacerbate the ongoing humanitarian crisis both in Israel and in the broader region.

As part of a new initiative, Operation Manna is compiling a database of attacks on Israeli civilians and civilian infrastructure since the outbreak of the Israel-Hamas War in October 2023. These attacks often go unnoticed and unreported outside of local media, but they continue to have a devastating effect on Israeli society. We reject any attempts to politicize the suffering of civilians; as we document the impact of the war on Israeli civilians, we continue to support efforts of other NGOs to do the same for civilians in Gaza and Lebanon.

This report documents the damage and destruction of medical infrastructure in Israel. Israel’s healthcare sector has been severely impacted by war: rocket fire from Gaza and Lebanon has forced hospitals to go underground, and despite the effectiveness of the iron dome, several medical facilities have sustained direct hits from rockets and over 20 ambulances have been destroyed since the start of the war. Additionally, medical personnel were directly targeted during the October 7th attack: at least 9 medical workers were shot by Hamas militants while treating injured civilians, including 3 ambulance drivers, and an emergency medical clinic was invaded and destroyed, leaving all but one patient dead.
