🦁 Wimborne and Ferndown Lions are pleased to announce a donation of £1,500 was presented to the Wimborne-based charity, Julia's House children's hospice. 💙

Presented by our club President, Peter Burnett, £820 of this donation was made possible thanks to everyone attending our fun-filled quiz night in April, hosted at the The Barrington Arts Centre in Ferndown. 🙌

A huge thank you to everyone who attended, took part and helped make this donation possible. 👏

The vision of Julia’s House is to support local families of life-limited and life-threatened children so they can access the help they need, when and where they need it; for every member of the family to feel supported, valued, cherished.

Our next quiz fundraiser benefitting Julia’s House is set to take place the evening of Saturday, 19-September at the Allendale Community Centre in Wimborne. 🗓️📍

There, our club’s Quizmaster aims to tickle team members’ dendrites, posing fresh head-scratchers to raise further funds supporting this fantastic charity.

We look forward to seeing you there for good food, a fun quiz, convivial banter, and plenty of laughter. 🍽️❓😄

Mark your diaries now. Additional details will be provided nearer to the time.

Two of our members supported the Orchid House Surgery community wellness event today.
We had our message in a bottle display and successfully gave out over 50 bottles today.
We also had some Lions information available and gave that out to a few people who expressed interest in what we do.
All in all a very well organised event, just a shame that more people didn’t support it.
Hopefully we are looking at a similar event on the 3rd October to coincide with the next Lions prostate cancer testing event in the Barrington Theatre.

Wimborne and Ferndown Lions Club held a very successful prostate cancer testing event this morning at the Wimborne Masonic Centre.

We had 181 men through our door for testing, they should all get their results in the next few days.

Our thanks go to the Graham Fulford Trust for providing the paperwork and the team of three phlebotomists led by Pauline. We must also thank Wimborne Masonic Hall for their great venue and particularly Tony Croucher for giving up his day to host us.

We did have one dissatisfied customer though, an elderly lady came in asking for someone to look at her table lamp. She had confused PSA testing with PAT testing!!

Due to our fundraising efforts, Wimborne & Ferndown Lions Club have been able to make some substantial donations to our local community before Christmas when it was particularly needed.

Lion Joan was delighted to present a cheque for £1000 to the Corfe Mullen FoodBank to help them cope with an increased demand leading up to Christmas, enabling them to buy exactly what they needed.

Diana Logan-Watts, the manager of the MS Centre Dorset in Parley and Liz Neal, one of the Trustees were thrilled to receive funds for £2100 which funded the Christmas party for the members and also assisted with the expenses connected to running the transport to get the members to the centre.

Our Lion President Peter Burnett was happy to deliver our donation of £1000 to Ferndown Community Support feat Ferndown Community Larder and bank so that much needed food could be purchased along with a new oven to help the local community

As well as these donations, we purchased, packed and distributed 103 food packages for local families in need.

If YOU would like to join us and help OUR local community please get in touch via our Wimborne & Ferndown Lions Club page or the form on our website - https://www.wimborneandferndownlions.org.uk/_contact.html

Every year Wimborne and Ferndown Lions Club produce Christmas food parcels for people in need in our area.
We have been shopping for special offers over the last few weeks and today we put it all out on tables at the Ferndown Guide Hall and packed 100 bags ready for distribution.
Thanks to everyone involved today - the Lion’s club members, their friends and families, Ferndown Guiding and all the organisations who are distributing on our behalf.
A really worthwhile day serving our communities.

Thank you to everyone who attended our free Prostate Cancer Testing event at the Barrington Theatre in Ferndown.

Out of the 227 men tested, 20% received a red high-risk letter and 8% received an amber warning letter.
That means 64 men were given an early warning and encouraged to seek further medical advice.

We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who took part and proud to know this event may have helped save lives. Early detection is vital and your participation truly makes a difference.

A huge thank you to our volunteers, supporters and partners for helping make this possible.

We’re also pleased to confirm that the club will be holding another free PSA testing event in March next year. Further details to be announced.

1 in 8 men will get prostate cancer in their lifetime, yet many won’t notice symptoms until it’s too late. If you’re over 50 (or 45+ with a family history), get tested — it could save your life.
