Lamoine Volunteer Fire Department - August 2026 Call Summary

August was a busy month for the Lamoine Volunteer Fire Department, with members responding to 11 emergency and mutual aid incidents throughout the region. Calls included structure and vehicle fires, motor vehicle accidents, fire alarms, and mutual aid responses to neighboring communities.

Notable incidents included providing mutual aid to a fully involved garage and house fire, responding to a camper fire, and supporting emergency operations during several serious motor vehicle accidents.

The department responded to multiple fire alarm activations at the Lamoine Consolidated School caused by power outages, with no fire conditions found. Several mutual aid requests were canceled en route after situations were brought under control, demonstrating the value of rapid regional coordination among local fire departments.

We are grateful for the dedication of our volunteer firefighters, neighboring agencies, and community members who support emergency services throughout the area. Whether responding directly to emergencies or providing mutual aid and station coverage, our members continue to serve with professionalism and commitment to keeping our communities safe.

Thank you to our firefighters, families, partner agencies community supporters for your continued support and service to our community. 🚒🇺🇸

Congratulations to the Lamoine Volunteer Fire Department’s own Lieutenant Ryan Stilwell on his recent graduation from the Hancock County Fire Academy. This is a tremendous accomplishment and a proud moment for Ryan, his family, and all of us at LVFD. The Fire Academy is a demanding and intensive program that requires a significant commitment of time, energy, and dedication. Over the course of six months, Ryan participated in hands-on training every other weekend, completed well over 100 hours of study, and worked toward earning his Pro Board Firefighter I/II certification.

In addition to completing the academy, Ryan was also selected to serve as a Company Officer during the program, a recognition of his leadership, commitment, and professionalism among his peers. We are incredibly proud to have Ryan serving in our ranks and standing alongside us as part of the Lamoine Volunteer Fire Department. His hard work and continued service reflect the very best of what it means to be a firefighter and a member of this department.

We also want to extend a special thank you to Ryan’s wife and family for supporting him throughout this journey and for sharing him with us in service to this noble cause. The time and commitment required to complete fire academy training affects not only the firefighter, but also the loved ones who stand beside them. Their support makes this kind of service possible.

Congratulations as well to every firefighter in the Hancock County Fire Academy, Class of 2026. Completing this program is no small achievement, and each graduate should be proud of the dedication, discipline, and perseverance it took to reach this milestone.

It is with a great sense of loss and sadness that we must report the passing of Chief George “Skip” Smith. Chief Smith has been the core of the Lamoine Volunteer Fire Department, serving as Chief for 49 years. He will be tremendously missed by all of us at LVFD and many, many others. We extend our sympathies to his wife Carol, daughters Alicia and Meghan, family and friends.
