Although academic freedom is protected under most collective agreements, its use and scope are poorly understood on college and university campuses. This panel will survey a wide variety of examples where academic freedom has been infringed and explores why faculty are often reluctant to exercise these rights. Discussion will focus on what constitutes academic freedom, its unique history within the academy, and its importance to the advancement of knowledge, creative expression, and the healthy functioning of civil society.

Join us on March 20th at 1pm for a moderated panel focusing on longstanding (and current) issues concerning academic freedom.

The Nations theme for the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination on March 21, 2022 is: “Voices for Action Against Racism”. Specifically, the theme aims to highlight the importance of strengthening meaningful and safe public participation and representation in all areas of decision-making to prevent and combat racial discrimination; reaffirm the importance of full respect for the rights to freedom of expression and peaceful assembly and of protecting civic space; and recognize the contribution of individuals and organizations that stand up against racial discrimination and the challenges they face.

Let's all do our part, individually and collectively, to raise our voices and take action against racism.

Racial and ethnic discrimination occur on a daily basis, hindering progress for millions of people around the world. Racism and intolerance can take various forms — from denying individuals the basic principles of equality to fuelling ethnic hatred that may lead to genocide — all of which can de...

Today, March 8 is International Women's Day (IWD), and the theme is “Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow”.

"The year 2022 is pivotal for achieving gender equality in the context of climate change, and environmental and disaster risk reduction, which are some of the greatest global challenges of the twenty-first century. Without gender equality today, a sustainable future, and an equal future, remains beyond our reach.

"This year’s IWD observance is in recognition and celebration of the women and girls who are leading the charge on climate change adaptation and response, and to honour their leadership and contribution towards a sustainable future." - United Nations Observance of IWD 2022
