ST TERESA OF ÁVILA (Thursday, 15 October, Memorial)
Spanish Carmelite nun and one of the great mystical writers of the Church, who reformed her order to return to a stricter, more contemplative way of life, founding the Discalced Carmelites alongside St. John of the Cross. Her writings on prayer and the interior life, including The Interior Castle and her autobiography, remain foundational spiritual classics. She died in 1582 and was declared the first female Doctor of the Church in 1970.
