Laurel H is new to our instructor team this session. Welcome to the group, Laurel!

**I’m responding to the questions below but my answers will be brief as I haven’t yet instructed for this group. I’m new here!

1. What programmes do you teach at Dundas 55+ Group?

I will be teaching Cardio Fit and Intro to Hatha Yoga.

2. What sparked your passion to become an instructor of cardio fit and yoga?

I’ve been an instructor for 30+ years and love meeting new people on their personal fitness journeys. I try to motivate and educate in my classes and in return, participants inspire me to stay dedicated and keep learning.

3. What's the best part of being an instructor at Dundas 55+ Group?

I can’t answer the third question (yet) 🙂

We look forward to meeting you Laurel, and we're sure you'll have an answer to the last question pretty darn soon!

Meet Leanne K., who guides classes in yoga and Strength, Stretch and Balance:

1. What programmes do you teach at Dundas 55+ Group?

The Dundas 55+ group brought me on board initially, many years ago now, to teach chair yoga and as the group has grown I have expanded to teaching not only chair yoga but regular mat yoga as well and a Stretch, Strengthen and Balance program.

2. What sparked your passion to become an instructor of yoga and SSB?

My passion for this work gets deeper every day.
The body is our home, our greatest teacher, and the vessel that carries our soul through this realm. It allows us to experience life on every level, it holds our brains and our hearts and there is nothing more important than maintaining harmony and strength in all of these areas as it creates a ripple effect in the world we live in. We are all a significant part of a bigger picture and the practice of yoga asks us to honour our own truth, its value and purpose and power, not only as a privilege but a responsibility.
Getting to hold space for people to connect with themselves and teaching the principals of yoga as a life practice that we take off of our mats rather than just a physical modality is a big part of my purpose, and I will forever be learning as I go.

3. What's the best part of being an instructor at Dundas 55+ Group?

The best part about being an instructor with the 55+ group is tricky to narrow down because there are so many wonderful parts, but what fills my cup the most is seeing confidence grow in folks who have become disconnected from their bodies and its abilities. The laughter when the ego surrenders, the tears when the heart opens up, the noticeable changes in their day to day lives.

Thank you, Leanne, for your positive energy!

Cheryl is our camera-shy ukulele instructor! Let's learn more about how she came to be our musical guide.

1. What programmes do you teach at Dundas 55+ Group?

I currently teach the ukulele programme at Dundas 55 Plus

2. What sparked your passion to become an instructor of ukulele?

I have always been a music teacher. First, in high school and later in elementary, so my passion is to teach music. Many seniors love to sing but the piano and guitar have a steeper learning curve. People can be playing songs in minutes with the ukulele.

3. What's the best part of being an instructor at Dundas 55+ Group?

And the best part of being an instructor at the Dundas 55+ Group are the wonderful fun and interesting people I meet and instruct!

Bonus question: favourite place to hangout in Dundas during the summer

In the summer, the ukuleles play at Wentworth Lodge every other Wednesday afternoon.

Thanks, Cheryl! Can't wait to hear those ukuleles strumming!

Today, we are meeting Lindsay K-P, a multi class instructor for our group.

1. What programmes do you teach at Dundas 55+ Group?

Stretch, Strength & Balance-Level 2
Cardio Fit
Meditation

2. What sparked your passion to become an instructor of (pilates, line dancing, etc)?

I've worked in the health and wellness field for 40+ years in my career, and have loved helping people improve their health and resilience. I've enjoyed teaching all kinds of classes-including step, strength and balance, cardio, and more recently became a yoga teacher after I retired. I especially enjoy working with beginners who are new to movement. To see the improvement in their endurance and strength over time is super rewarding. The discussions that we have during the meditation program are helpful to all participants to learn that their struggles are common to all who are trying to meditate!

3. What's the best part of being an instructor at Dundas 55+ Group?

I love the participants in these programs! They are so friendly, welcoming, and fun. And most of them welcome my goofball energy (or at least tolerate it with a smile). I moved to Dundas 8 years ago (just before the pandemic) and have met so many lovely Dundasians in these programs.

Bonus question: favourite place to hangout in Dundas during the summer.

That's a tie: the rail trail/Dundas Valley/doing yoga in the driving park

Thanks, Lindsay! We appreciate you!

Say hello to Lisa P. Lisa guides several classes and has answered our questions below:

What programmes do you teach at Dundas 55+ Group?
I teach Chair Pilates, Mat Pilates and Cardio Dance at the Dundas 55+ Group.

What sparked your passion to start instructing the courses that you provide?
I began teaching Pilates because it complimented my previous career as a dancer. It focuses on alignment, balance and flexibility, which is also important for our joints as we age.

What's the best part of being an instructor for Dundas 55+ Group?
The best part of being an instructor for Dundas 55+ community is their willingness to learn new activities and witnessing them improve at the end of each session. I enjoy teaching here because the community is vibrant, supportive and eager to participate.
There are not enough programmes for seniors in general so I am happy that we are able to offer a variety of classes to meet there needs.

Bonus Question: What's your favourite place to hangout in Dundas in the summer?
Best place to hangout in Dundas is everywhere. There are a variety of great restaurants and coffee shops, the Driving Park and most of all the surrounding landscape. My favorite thing to do is walk through various neighbourhoods and admire all the gardens bloom and fade each season.

Thanks, Lisa, for bringing your energy to Dundas 55+ Group!

Meet Christine K.

We asked our instructors the same 3 questions and today we are learning more about Christine.

1. What programmes do you teach at Dundas 55+ Group?
Pilates every Tuesday.

2. What sparked your passion to become an instructor?
After my daughters were born, I needed something gentle — a low-impact way to heal my pelvic floor and ease my back pain, without the exhaustion of HIIT. Pilates felt amazing. It reshaped my body in ways traditional strength training never had. More than a decade later, I’m still sharing that same love of Pilates with women, and I can’t imagine doing anything else.

3. What’s the best part of being an instructor at Dundas 55+ Group?
The people, hands down. 🙂

Bonus — favourite place to hang out in Dundas in the summer:
Any of the great hiking trails, with my pup Kaia.

Thanks, Christine, for your excellent guidance during Tuesday's Pilates classes!
