Did you know that approximately 85 cents out of every dollar donated goes directly to support Kuwala and the girls? We not only provide an education, we feed their soul, provide lifelong memories, and give these girls a helping hand to break the cycle of poverty in Malawi.

During Kuwala’s graduation ceremony, Casey Chimelera, our top-performing Form 4 student, shared a powerful message with her classmates.

Holding up a small key, Casey explained that although it may seem insignificant, a key can unlock a door or start an engine.

Kuwala, she said, is like that key — providing an education that unlocks potential and opens the door to possibility.

Casey was recognized as both Best Performing Student and Best Student in Languages. She will also have the opportunity to return to Kuwala as a peer tutor and mentor to future students.

We’re incredibly proud of Casey and all she has accomplished. Way to go, Casey! 🎓

Today is UN World Food Day, and we’re reminded that innovation has an important role to play in building more stable, sustainable food systems that can nourish people today while protecting resources for future generations.

At Kuwala, we believe innovation is also part of the path forward to feeding our students.

By using fact-based farming practices, we can better understand what works, optimize our growing methods and maximize every harvest.

Innovate Today. Nourish Tomorrow. And we couldn’t agree more.

🎓 A special celebration at Kuwala

This year’s graduation was a particularly special occasion as 41 Form 4 students celebrated an important milestone before heading into their National Examinations.

We were honoured to welcome The Honourable Justice Annabel Mtalimanja, distinguished Malawian High Court Judge and Chairperson of the Malawi Electoral Commission, as our commencement speaker.

With families visiting campus, students celebrating together and caps flying into the air, it was a wonderful day to recognize how far our graduates have come — and look ahead to what lies ahead.

Congratulations to the Class of 2026! 🎓🌱

🔬 Kuwala students continue to excel in science!

In 2026, ten nearby schools came together for the Science, Technology and Innovation Fair at Nsaru Secondary School, giving students the opportunity to showcase their ideas, explore new possibilities and celebrate their interest in science.

Organized with support from Sovereign Services Limited and Malawi’s Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, the fair encourages young people to consider careers in Malawi’s mining and energy sectors.

We’re proud to see Kuwala students getting hands-on experience, building confidence and discovering what’s possible through science and innovation.

Happy World Teachers’ Day!

Today, we celebrate the teachers who do so much more than teach lessons.

We are incredibly proud of our teaching staff. Whether sparking curiosity, challenging students to think differently, or helping them discover their true potential, our teaching staff consistently goes above and beyond—in the classroom, out on the farm, and through every daily interaction.

Thank you to the dedicated teachers who are helping our students learn, grow and prepare for their futures.

Earlier this year, we introduced 42 broiler chickens to the Farm, producing a total of 77.3 kg of edible meat. That's an average of 1.84 kg per bird, well exceeding the typical commercial yield in Malawi of 1.3 to 1.6 kg per chicken!

Even more encouraging, after the initial starter feed, we produced nearly all of the chickens’ feed on the farm.

This harvest provided enough nourishing protein for three full school meals. We plan to expand production to 250 birds in staggered cycles, ensuring a consistent, reliable supply of poultry for our students throughout the year.

Next up: laying hens for fresh eggs, alongside our growing mushroom project and other farm initiatives.

Step by step, we’re building a more sustainable and self-sufficient food system for Kuwala — growing more of what we eat while reducing our reliance on unpredictable food prices and supply chains.

More science means more learning.

Our students have been exploring the properties of liquids by designing and building their own working hydraulic arms, using Pascal's Principle to bring their creations to movement.

By turning abstract concepts from their lessons into something they can hold and operate, our students are building the curiosity, creativity, and problem-solving skills needed to inspire the next generation of innovators.

Construction is progressing smoothly across campus, with the new hostel, classroom block, and matron’s houses all on track for completion before the new school year. These spaces will provide students with a safe, comfortable environment to learn, grow, and thrive.

Thanks to the generous support of a Canadian donor, Kuwala has also welcomed a new riding lawn mower to help keep our growing grounds looking their absolute best.

Every new building, garden, and piece of equipment is a vital investment in Kuwala’s future—helping us create a campus where education, opportunity, and community can truly flourish.

Our Form 3 and Form 4 students are now putting theory into practice inside our purpose-built mushroom house for their mushroom production project!

Successful mushroom production requires careful attention to temperature, humidity, sanitation and timing. From preparing local organic substrates like maize stalks to managing precise temperature, humidity, and timing, students are experiencing the full cycle of sustainable agriculture firsthand.
