Institute of Licensing The Institute of Licensing is a memberhsip organisation for licensing professionals/practitioners. We aim to provide a service on a cost neutral basis.

To become a member visit us at http://www.instituteoflicensing.org/membership The Institute of Licensing, (IoL) evolved from the Local Government Licensing Forum and in the process incorporated the Society of Licensing Practitioners; we became a charity and set up a separate company to provide training and events. Initially our membership was predominantly officers from local authorities but in recent years the membership has increased to include police officers, lawyers, councillors, licensing consultants and members of the licensed trade. As a charity one of our main aims and objectives is to increase knowledge and professionalism in licensing practitioners. Being a charity we do not operate as a business and we do not seek to make a profit. We have a board of non-paid directors consisting of representatives from all of our membership base, council and police officers, lawyers, licensing consultants and the licensed trade. We have 11 regions covering England, Wales and Northern Ireland. We employ a small number of staff and we have a small team of contractors.

The High Court has dismissed £340 million of claims against Uber on limitation grounds.

The claims were brought by around 13,000 London black cab drivers and the assignee of two former private hire operators. The court ruled they were brought outside the limitation period and did not consider the merits of the allegations, which Uber denied. Representatives of the claimant drivers said they are considering their options.

The Government has proposed tighter rules on high-risk cosmetic procedures in England.

The draft regulations cover liquid BBLs, vampire facials and deep chemical peels, and would restrict the highest-risk treatments to qualified healthcare professionals. The Department of Health and Social Care has also confirmed it remains committed to a licensing scheme for clinics offering Botox and lip filler.

The consultation closes on 13 January 2027.

The written submission behind Sue Nelson's oral evidence to Parliament's high streets inquiry says successful high streets need place management as well as place making.
