Frankton 75: Following in the footsteps of our Grandfather We are recreating the 80 mile canoe down the Gironde estuary into Bordeaux, which our Grandfather completed as part of a daring WW2 raid.

We will spend 5 days paddling, or should I say, battling! The tidal estuary is notorious for being dangerous. Once we land in Bordeaux we will begin the second leg of our challenge, the 100+ mile trek to Ruffec, which our Grandfather used to escape occupied France. Operation Frankton was said to have shortened WW2 by six months, with only 2 of the 10 marines surviving the raid. These legends were

later immortalized as the Cockleshell Heroes. We are raising money for Weldmar Hospice Trust, which is a charity so close to our hearts as they cared for our father in his final days. The staff could not do enough to help us and care for Dad, be it researching and making him puddings from his childhood, or comforting us all when his final moments came. Angels on this earth doesn't seem to come close to doing them justice. So we are aiming to raise £10,000 to help the cause.
