Nomad Two Worlds Foundation We empower Indigenous and marginalised communities through art, collaboration, and cultural connection, building bridges toward understanding and opportunity.

Learn more and support our mission: https://linktr.ee/NomadTwoWorldsFoundation Nomad Two Worlds began as a steeply messaged artistic collaboration project between internationally renowned Australian photographer Russell James and Australian Indigenous artists. It has since expanded into additional cultural collaborations worldwide that lead to the establishment of the Nomad Two Worlds Foundation in USA in the 2008 (501C #), and in Australia as a charitable foundation in 2022.

Fifty Years of Deadly.

In 2007, Clifton Bieundurry took me out to his country in the central Kimberley, before we’d ever made a piece of art together.

“I paint to share my culture with all people,” he’s said. “It’s important that we can all gain an understanding of our diversity and differences.”

What we’ve built since is exactly that: his art, painted over my photographs, two ways of reading the same country, on the same surface.

Today is National Sorry Day.

This is Inhibition Warlu Juju. Meaning Sorry in Walmajarri.

Russell photographed this fire on the road between Broome and Lake Gregory. To him, the heat and the searing light of the land burning. To Clifton Bieundurry, something he recognised immediately - a Sorry Meeting. The ceremony where all tribes come together to honour the deceased. The white gum leaves. The positions held by mourning relatives. A ritual carried across generations.

Clifton painted that ceremony over the photograph. When you look at the overlay from above, the arrangement of figures mirrors the seating of the Australian Parliament on February 13, 2008. The morning Prime Minister Kevin Rudd delivered his apology to the Stolen Generations.

That is not a coincidence. That is what this land has always been holding.

Clifton Bieundurry and Russell James first met in Ibiza in the 90s. Russell working with a camera, Clifton with paint, songlines, and a 60,000-year-old cultural lineage carried in every gesture.

Different mediums, but the same pull toward Country.

In 2007, that connection brought them to the Simpson Desert in Australia’s outback. It was there, alongside Clifton’s family, that the first artistic collaboration was born.

For Russell, raised in Western Australia, the land had always been familiar. But this journey revealed deeper layers, and blind spots, that could only be understood through presence, listening, and time on Country.

Clifton describes the work as a convergence: two artists speaking in different forms, arriving at the same truth. Paint and photography, held in dialogue with Country itself.

Artworks from this collaboration are available as high-quality reproductions and products: including T-shirts, tote bags, and more. A way to continue supporting the artists and the stories carried in this work.

Talent is everywhere. Opportunity is not.

But when the right door opens, something remarkable happens. An artist finds their stage. A community finds its voice. A culture gets to share its story with the world on its own terms.

And that ripple? It doesn’t stop. It reaches the next generation, and the one after that.

That’s what keeps us going.

We believe art has the power to change lives, preserve cultures, and build futures that people get to define for themselves. And we’ve seen it happen. Again and again.

If that resonates with you, whether you’re an artist, an organisation, a brand, or someone who simply believes in what this work stands for, we’d love to hear from you.

There are many ways to get involved: partner with us, make a donation, or shop the store at nomadtwoworlds.com.

Every bit of support goes directly toward the work.

The Nomad Two Worlds Foundation began with a concept: to create collaborative art blending contemporary photography with the visual language of Indigenous and marginalised artists to produce works that belong equally to both cultures.

That collaboration became the engine for everything else.

Through exhibitions, workshops, film, and community programs, we work to amplify Indigenous and marginalised voices, locally and internationally.

We support arts education, cultural leadership, and professional development for underrepresented communities. We use art as a tool for economic independence, cultural identity, and reconciliation.

2026 is shaping up to be our biggest year yet. We have some exciting announcements on the way! sign up for updates so you don’t miss them: https://www.nomadtwoworlds.com/programs
