Sometimes, knowing that someone else understands can make all the difference.

Global Peer Support Celebration Day reminds us that connection is a powerful part of mental health. Shared experiences can create understanding, reduce isolation, build hope, and help people feel less alone.

For young people, supportive relationships with peers, trusted adults, and their communities can be an important source of resilience.

Today, we celebrate the people who show up, listen, share their experiences, and remind others that they don’t have to navigate difficult moments alone.

Ortus Foundation is proud to partner with the Healthy Outcomes through Prevention and Education - HOPE as a Helios Grantee supporting a youth-led mental health and su***de prevention campaign developed with the Montana High School Rodeo Association

Built with youth, not simply for youth, the campaign will expand from high school rodeo into Montana’s broader agricultural communities, including 4-H, FFA, county fairs, and other rural youth networks.

Through youth leadership, digital outreach, community engagement, and highly visible campaign activations, the initiative aims to strengthen protective factors and normalize conversations around mental health and help-seeking.

Rodeo starts the conversation. The community carries it forward.

THANK YOU FOR BEING PART OF THE CONVERSATION

The Intermountain West Youth Mental Health Symposium may be over, but the work continues.

Thank you to every speaker, panelist, community leader, mental health professional, educator, policymaker, advocate, partner, and attendee who joined us in Jackson Hole for two days of meaningful conversation about the future of youth mental health.

We explored the challenges facing young people across the Intermountain West, along with opportunities around mental health parity, building collaborative infrastructure, AI, social connectedness, and belonging.

The symposium was a gathering. The work is ongoing.
We hope you’ll continue the conversation with us as we work toward a healthier future for young people across the Intermountain West.

Today is World Mental Health Day.

Mental health affects all of us.

Today is an opportunity to recognize the importance of mental health, challenge stigma, and consider what we can do to create communities where people have the support and resources they need to thrive.

For young people across the Intermountain West, that means building systems that prioritize connection, belonging, prevention, early support, and access to care.

At Ortus Foundation, we believe improving youth mental health requires all of us: individuals, families, schools, healthcare providers, communities, and leaders.

Mental health belongs in every conversation about the health and future of our communities.

Today, during Mental Health Awareness Week, we begin an important conversation about the state of youth mental health across the Intermountain West.

Over the next two days, leaders, advocates, clinicians, educators, policymakers, and community members will come together to examine the challenges facing young people and explore what it will take to build stronger systems of support.
From the State of Youth Mental Health in the Intermountain West to conversations about mental health parity, innovation, and the role of technology, Day One is about understanding where we are and asking what needs to change.

We are grateful to everyone joining us in Jackson Hole to listen, learn, share ideas, and be part of this work.

Connection can be one of the most powerful protective factors in a young person’s life.
In this session, Ralph Fawaz, Founder of Tele-Hope, will explore the role of belonging, connection, and hope in supporting youth mental health, with practical approaches designed for rural and frontier communities.
Participants will leave with a deeper understanding of belonging as a fundamental human need, along with actionable strategies to strengthen relationships and build greater connectedness within their organizations and communities.

What changes when young people are part of building the solution?
Students from across the Intermountain West will share what they’re experiencing on their campuses and what they believe it will take to create meaningful change.
This is a conversation about moving beyond listening to youth voices and creating real opportunities for youth leadership and partnership.

How do we know what’s working and who might still be missing from the data?
Experts from AFSP, Johns Hopkins, The Trevor Project, and TeleHope will explore research, evaluation, ethical data use, and the persistent data gaps affecting rural and frontier communities.
When we collaborate we get one step closer to turning better data into better decisions for young people.

On October 3, 2008, the Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act (MHPAEA) was signed into law, establishing federal protections intended to ensure that mental health and substance use disorder benefits are not subject to less favorable financial requirements or treatment limitations than medical and surgical benefits.

Almost two decades later, the goal of parity remains an important part of the conversation around access to mental health care. While the law has strengthened protections, federal agencies continue to identify barriers that can prevent people from accessing mental health and substance use disorder treatment.

At Ortus Foundation, we believe improving youth mental health requires more than expanding services. It requires continued attention to the policies, systems, and barriers that shape whether young people and families can actually access the care they need.

Parity means mental health care is health care.

Prevention & Early Intervention / Place-Based Interventions
What happens when we intervene before a young person reaches crisis?
This conversation will bring together regional leaders to explore protective factors, trusted adults, family engagement, community strategies, and place-based approaches already working across the Intermountain West.
