It was a beautiful day in August to share some of our First Nation stories and our culture with newcomers to Canada. I love the photos of the children of all ages enjoying the colouring books and crayons with First Nation images to colour. Newcomers to Canada need to hear stories about First Nations by First Nations. Miigwech to the New Canadians Centre Northumberland for capturing the day and posting.

For Anishinaabe, August is the Manoomini Giizis (Ricing Moon)

The Ricing Moon represents balance, harmony and the future. This is a time when wild rice is typically harvested and a ceremony is conducted. Wild rice is known as the “good berry” and is highly nutritious.
