Congratulations to Kathy Schermer-Gramm!

It is easy to see why this watercolor of a Pine-Oak Rust Gall by Kathy Schermer-Gramm was awarded an Honorable Mention at the ASBA 28th Annual Exhibition. It is a thoughtful, moody witness to (as she calls it) “the violence that occurs in the rebirth of a forest struggling to survive.” Besides painting this beautifully detailed depiction of the gall, Schermer-Gramm also gives us a thorough explanation of the gall’s role in the turnover of a forest. Read more about it here: https://www.asba-art.org/content.aspx?page_id=22&club_id=92618&module_id=739940

See the painting live and in-person at the 28TH ANNUAL EXHIBITION, Marin Art & Garden Center, Ross, CA, September 26 - November 23, 2025. Opening Reception, September 28, 2025, 3pm-5pm.

From Emily Oglesby at NCBG:
You’re invited to submit your work to the 2026 NCBG Botanical Art & Illustration Calendar. This calendar highlights the work of the NCBG Certificate in Botanical Art & Illustration program and promotes awareness of the Garden. We produce a wall version and a desktop version and make them available for sale in our Garden Shop, in-person and online.

Each month (and the cover) features a different illustration of a southeastern native plant. Participation is open only to current students and graduates of the Garden’s certificate program. You may submit up to two scanned illustrations of southeastern native plants for consideration. The works do not have to be new, but they can’t have been a part of a previous BAI calendar. Artists whose illustrations are selected will receive a complimentary copy of the calendar.

A high-quality scan or photo is important: make sure the resolution is high (300 DPI) and the colors (and backgrounds) look like you want them to look! We can do a little photo- shopping after submission, but it’s helpful for files to arrive print-ready.

The deadline for entries is Monday, July 16. Learn more and submit your work through the BAI Calendar Entry Form.

RePost: Attn Chatham County Artists!
“IT’S NOT TOO LATE!

We’re still accepting proposals for 2025 JumpstART commissions. Much like last season, Chatham County artists are encouraged to submit a proposal to create work based on a Chatham County local - this season’s twist - it has to a twenty-something local (or really close to it)! We want to learn all about Chatham’s next generation of leaders and business people through your artwork! All work will be featured in a special JumpstART exhibition at ClydeFEST. Last year, more than 2,500 area folks visited the event, so this is a great opportunity for your work to be seen!

SUBMISSION DEADLINE: January 21
COMPLETED WORK DEADLINE: April 13

For more details and proposal submissions, visit
