Yesterday we joined Home-Start Blackpool & Fylde to donate to their “Dads Matter” scheme at Fairhaven Lake .
Janet Akins , funding manager, has sent a lovely message of thanks today .
“A huge thank you to the Bobby Ball Foundation
you officially opened our new monthly Walk and Talk for Dads at Fairhaven Lake, and presented us with a £500 cheque right there on the day.
Standing by the lake, with that moment captured for all to see, it summed up exactly what community support looks like. Not just a cheque in the post, but a local foundation turning up, cutting the ribbon, and showing their backing in person for the dads of Blackpool.
And here's why that support matters so much.
The evidence is solid: when dads are involved from the start – warm, present, engaged – children thrive. Better emotional resilience, stronger friendships, fewer behavioural issues. It's not opinion; it's decades of research. Yet too many dads still feel services aren't "for them."
That's where Dad Matters steps in. We've supported over 40,000 dads nationally, and here in Blackpool we're on the ground – in hospitals, children's centres, and now every month at Fairhaven Lake. Because sometimes the best conversations happen when you're walking side‑by‑side, not sitting face‑to‑face. No pressure, just fresh air and a listening ear.
Without these kind donations we wouldn’t exist for the dads in our community. When local businesses like the Bobby Ball Foundation get behind us like that, it sends a powerful message: supporting dads isn't a nice‑to‑have – it's how we build a stronger Blackpool, one step at a time.
So thank you, Bobby Ball Foundation, for the cheque and for officially opening our monthly Walk and Talk. You've helped create something special.
If you're a dad (with a little one up to 2 years old) come join us. Our monthly Walk and Talk at Fairhaven Lake is free, friendly, and open to all dads.
And if you'd like to support us too, every donation, big or small, makes a real difference.
…starting next month Stanley park walk and talk.”
