Happy first day of Pride Month! 🌈
Today we're kicking things off with this lovely photo of our Wellbeing Lead, Leah, at South Tyneside College's Pride Month launch event.

Here's what she shared with us:

"Today I had the pleasure of being invited to South Tyneside College to help promote our service at their Pride Month launch event. Having already supported several LGBTQ+ young people from the college, it was especially lovely to reconnect with some of those I've worked with in the past, as well as seeing members of our current group who are now attending there.

I received such a warm welcome and was even jokingly introduced as their VIP, which made the experience feel even more special!

I was also delighted to be invited to join their weekly LGBTQ+ college group, and I'm really looking forward to returning next Wednesday to continue building these valued connections. Opportunities like this are so important in helping us celebrate inclusion, strengthen relationships, and ensure young people feel seen, supported, and proud of who they are."

If you are supporting a young person and are worried about their mental health, it’s not always clear what the right thing to do is.

You might notice changes, they might:
🔴 be quieter than normal
🟠 lose interest in things they used to enjoy
🟡 be more withdrawn
🟢 be more anxious
🔵 not know how to start the conversation, or where to turn next.

For parents and carers of LGBTQ+ young people, that uncertainty can feel even greater.

We want you to know that you’re not expected to have all the answers.

This service has been created to support young people in a way that feels safe, affirming, and appropriate for them, while also giving reassurance to the people around them.

Support is always with the young person’s awareness and consent, and at a pace that works for them.

You don’t have to navigate this on your own.

Today, we’re proud to launch a new service focused on something that matters deeply: the mental health of LGBTQ+ young people. 🌈

Too many young people are struggling in silence. This campaign is about changing that, creating space for honesty, support, and real conversations.

You are not alone. You are valid. And your mental health matters.

Over the coming weeks, we’ll be sharing stories, resources, and ways to get support in Sunderland and Surround areas, as well as how you can stand with LGBTQ+ young people.
