The Kiewa River Sound Map :: Is longstanding alumni Philip Samartzis's latest project, developed over the past three years through the Bogong Centre for Sound Culture in partnership with Switzerland’s Gwaertler Stiftung.

The project traces the evolving acoustic life of the Kiewa River from the Bogong High Plains to the Murray River. Through field recordings, video, and an aleatoric digital interface, the work explores how ecology, weather, infrastructure, and human intervention shape the river’s sonic identity.

"I am always hopeful that my next project will eventually manifest itself. My most recent exhibition SLOW showed a series of digital photographs utilising Hi-Viz safety clothing and signage that imagined cautionary paraphernalia as prompts to remind us to slow down both in our physical and psychological states. The idea for these recent art works seemed to come from somewhere in the universe, however I think maybe the current state of the world may have influenced my conceptual thinking."
Ed James talking about the next project, Ed is ANAT's May Q&A guest.

"We didn’t start with a plan.

We started with what was there.

Milk crates. Timber. Stories. People moving through.

Someone spoke about the dairy co-ops.
Someone else about the mills.
Barry filled in what we didn’t know.

So we stayed with that.

We stacked milk crates.
At first it was nothing. Just a shape building slowly.
Open enough to walk through.
Loose enough to stop and look."

When the 🌏 world doesn't seem like such a big place. 14,000 kms from home and finding a familiar face at the same place, at the same time.

It's ANAT CEO Melissa DeLaney's final day at the prestigious Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity, as part of the Partnerships in the Arts: Building Resilient Cultural Ecosystems program.

Serendipitously, Wiradyuri artist and alumni Amala Groom is also at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity, participating in the Indigenous Arts Story Sharing Residency.

The Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity has a longstanding commitment to First Nations, Inuit, and Métis arts and cultural practice, creating space for Indigenous artists and knowledge systems to thrive internationally.

The Partnerships in the Arts program is informed by decades of Indigenous Leadership programming, with a focus on collaborations, partnerships, and external relationships.
