Humanitarian aid starts with listening.
In Dahieh, our team met with the community first to understand what was actually needed. From there, we sourced, prepared and distributed essential supplies based on those conversations.

There isn’t just one humanitarian crisis happening right now.

Across different parts of the world, communities are facing conflict, displacement, natural disasters and shortages of basic necessities.

Lebanon, Sudan, Gaza, Nepal, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Myanmar and Ukraine are just some of the places where humanitarian needs remain significant.

At Humanitet, we also want to use our platform to keep people informed about crises beyond the communities where we currently work.

Why return to the same community?

During our earlier outreach in Tyre, our focus was on supporting families with food rations, baby diapers & sanitation supplies. When we returned to the area, the needs had changed. They needed to get to some sense of normality, for the kids & community!

So we provided musical instruments for former members of the now destroyed youth centre.

The visit gave us another way to support the community beyond immediate relief, by helping former members restart an activity that brought them together.

A youth centre in South Lebanon, heavily damaged by conflict. But its community is still here.

When Humanitet first visited, our focus was supporting local families with essential food supplies.

On our return, we met members of the Elisar Youth Association who wanted to bring their activities back to life.

This time, we came with musical instruments. And soon, they were tuning, practising and playing together again. 🎶

A space may be damaged. Its community doesn’t disappear.

A community rebuilding after conflict needs more than physical repairs.

It needs reasons for people to come together again.

At Elisar Youth Association, new instruments are giving young people an opportunity to practice, create and share music once again.

The first notes are only the beginning.

Conflict can destroy buildings.

But rebuilding a community is about more than rebuilding walls.

At Elisar Youth Association, the physical space still carries the damage of the conflict. Yet former members and young people are finding ways to bring activity back.

From essential support for families to musical instruments for the youth, every step contributes to keeping the community connected.

Not every broken instrument has to be thrown away.

During our recent outreach at Elisar Youth Association, we also collected instruments that can no longer be used.

The idea is to work with an artist to turn these broken instruments into artwork and, if the pieces are sold, return the proceeds to the youth association.

At the same time, new instruments are helping young people begin making music again.

Different instruments. Different purposes. One community.

This is one more way we’re looking for opportunities to support Elisar as it moves forward.

A building can be damaged.

A community doesn’t have to disappear with it.

Elisar Youth Association once provided young people with a place to learn, play, make music, and spend time together.

Today, much of the building remains damaged. But efforts are already underway to bring some of that community life back.

With the support of generous donors, we’re helping provide musical instruments as part of that effort.

Because humanitarian response isn’t only about helping people through a crisis.

It’s also about helping communities find their way forward.

Music never dies. 🎶

When Kanwar visited Ellisar Youth Association in Tyre, he found a community determined to rebuild after their musical instruments and equipment were destroyed in the bombing.

Ellisar brings together young people from across the community through music, sport and shared activities.

Humanitet returned with new instruments to help get the music going again.

And despite a broken-down car, a late arrival and a microphone that failed us at exactly the wrong moment… they played. ❤️

This is what rebuilding can sound like.
