Sustainable Sailing Greece We are creating a community for sailors and companies in Greece to support sustainable sailing. You can download it here or on our website.

Our Founder Christina created an Alliance that aims to bring together everyone across the sailing community in Greece in order to provide resources and information for sailors and companies to help them take positive action for protecting the beautiful and unique coastline and sea of Greece. It can also provide a forum to discuss and identify common challenges facing the marine and coastal areas the sector depends on and find solutions to tackle some of these. We created a Sustainable Sailing Guide booklet that is being donated free to interested companies to put on board their fleet for their clients. It provides practical and simple tips for sailors for protecting Greece's beautiful marine environment when boating. Have you watched IONIAN STORIES our new film yet? 🌊⚓

One skipper. Good habits. A cleaner Ionian for everyone who sails after her.

⛵️Meet Dominique Michon . She’s sailed the Ionian for years, worked as a charter skipper, and knows these waters better than almost anyone.
In our new film, she shows you exactly how she does it: how to drop anchor without harming seagrass, how she handles waste on board and on shore, the joys of finding local delicacies and supporting family producers (many are listed in her Ionian Sail Guide) and why she always takes care around the wildlife that call these waters home.

🐬 None of it is complicated. That’s the whole point. A few small habits, done every trip, make a real difference to the sea we all love sailing in.

Some of it you’ll already know. Some of it might be new. Either way, watch it once and you’ll do it differently next time you’re on the water.

🚫 A reminder in case it’s not on your navigation app or system that access to the islet of Formicula is restricted!

⚓️ NO anchoring anywhere within 400m of the islet

🦭 Help protect the endangered Mediterranean monk seal by… keeping well away!

🤓 If you are lucky enough to spot one on your voyage follow the guidelines and report sightings (see our guide or the wildlife reel in our grid)

😎 You’re all applying your SPF right? Good! But….

Plot twist: that sunscreen washing off you might be the villain of the story, not the hero 🧴🐠

Most regular sunscreens contain oxybenzone and octinoxate, chemicals that can bleach coral and mess with fish reproduction. And every time you swim, shower on deck, or jump off the back of the boat, some of it rinses straight into the sea.

The fix is easy:

🚫 Skip: oxybenzone, octinoxate, octocrylene — all linked to coral bleaching and harm to fish and marine life.

✅ Look for: mineral-based formulas (zinc oxide or titanium dioxide) and "reef safe" or ‘marine safe’ labels.

☀️ Bonus: mineral sunscreen tends to be gentler on sensitive skin too

Same protection for you. A lot less damage for the sea. Small swap, big difference 🐠☀️

All supermarkets and chemists in Greece will have a selection of brands you can choose from.

🐢 Double celebrations! World Biodiversity Day (May 22) and Turtle Day (May 23)!

Did you know the waters we love to sail in Greece are home to the incredible Caretta caretta loggerhead turtle — one of the oldest creatures on the planet, with ancestors dating back over 100 million years?

Alongside turtles, Greek seas are also home to dolphins, Mediterranean monk seals, whales, seabirds and an extraordinary variety of marine life.

While sightings of wildlife at sea are unforgettable, these animals need space, calm and protection to thrive.

⛵️ When sailing near wildlife:
·      Slow down
·      Keep at least 100m distance
·      Never chase, touch or feed animals
·      Avoid turtle nesting beaches and seal caves
·      Reduce noise and disturbance
·      Report your sightings (link in bio)

Very inspiring conversations at the EMMYs long into the night with responsible chef competition judges and Angelos from as well as many of the chefs who took part from FX Yachting and Athenian Yachts. Lots of ideas and plans being developed to encourage even more use of locally sourced sustainable ingredients for creating on board menus for guests. Watch this space! 😋
