Over the weekend, the Faith Norah Lukosi Foundation, in partnership with Lions Clubs International Foundation led by Amb. Simon Njoroge, reached over 600 families affected by floods in Kiambiu and parts of Makadara Constituency.

Through the support of the Lions Club, the flood victims received mattresses, blankets, food supplies, and essential household items to support their recovery.

However, these recurring floods continue to expose deeper systemic failures; poor drainage, unmanaged waste, and inadequate urban planning in Nairobi County.

We urge the Nairobi City County Government to prioritize sustainable, long-term solutions to protect vulnerable communities. We also call on more partners and well-wishers to join us in standing with flood victims in informal settlements of Nairobi.

Under our Rising Stars Mentorship Programme at the Faith Norah Lukosi Foundation, we continue to mentor and support young girls by creating safe spaces where they can learn openly about menstrual hygiene.

Sometimes girls take certain lessons more seriously when they hear them from mentors, teachers, or other trusted adults. And sometimes parents may feel shy discussing menstruation with their daughters.

That is why we hold these sensitization sessions with practical demonstrations and provide dignity packs including sanitary pads to ensure girls manage their periods with confidence and dignity.

When girls understand their bodies, they gain confidence, stay in school, and pursue their dreams.

Menstruation is natural. Let’s normalize the conversation and protect the dignity of the girl child.

This week, a third year student from the Catholic University of Eastern Africa walked into our office at the Faith Norah Lukosi Foundation with her father seeking help for university fees.

She is not alone. We encounter many similar cases of bright, deserving students in Makadara struggling with fee arrears, which clearly shows that the current bursary systems are not reaching everyone who needs them. It is unfortunate that in this day and age, so many young people are forced to pause their education due to financial constraints.

We stepped in to support the student through the Foundation. But charity is not the solution, we need systems that work for all learners.

Education is a right and not a favour.
