SN Pride Outreach Wa'tgwanohe:nyoh swagwe:goh! Some notes about the logo and the intended meaning:

1.

We are a grassroots group of community members from the Six Nations of the Grand River Territory focusing on outreach and education on 2S & LGBTQIA+ topics. The beings in the centre of the mound make a heart representing ganǫ́hkwasra’, it acknowledges the Indigenous LGBTQ+ communities desire to create/promote an environment that is caring and safe.

2. The roots in the mound represent Ga̱hsháhsdęhsra, which provide us with the strength to endure challenges. They are also shaped like a dreamcatcher which capture good energy to enrich and nourish our souls and ideas.

3. The plant stalk symbolizes growth and support, the two beings are raising their arms to help hold up the drooping downward stems which have been wayed down by the obstacles of life. This symbolizes the need to support each other and ensure all have a Ga’nigǫhí:yo:.

4. At the top of the stalk, the “flower”, moon and sun side by side, symbolizes the feminine and masculine energies that all beings possess and the nature of being “two spirited.” The rays of the sun remind us that we must always look forward and greet the new dawn as the new day brings new beginnings and opportunities. Note: the term two spirited is not a Haudenosaunee understanding of why someone is part of the LGBTQ+ community. Traditionally, same-sex relationships & gender fluidity are seen as a natural part of the human experience. This why we avoid and have no words for different sexual orientations in our languages, we are all Ǫgwehǫ:weh regardless of “sexual orientation.”

We’d also like to give a nyá:::węh go::::wah to Dakota & Jesse Brant of Sapling & Flint for creating the Haudenosaunee Pride flag as seen in our cover photo!

Shé:kon sewakwé:kon!

Hello everyone 👋🏽We are Six Nations Pride Outreach team here in Ohsweken. We are a grassroots group of community members and youth. We are committed to creating safe spaces in community to express and celebrate Haudenosaunee/Indigenous and Two Spirit and Q***r identities.

We run on a volunteer based and are committed and inspired to share spaces and conversations with community members in hopes to address stigmatization and discrimination while celebrating our existence.

We are in partnership with many community organizations and hope to continue this work in the future.

We are excited to celebrate pride month and Indigenous History People’s month in June. Stay tuned for upcoming events and posts 😊🏳️‍🌈
