Douglas Valley Community - Wigan Borough Douglas Valley Community: Supporting the development & sustainability of Community Assets in Wigan

18/05/2026

It is currently Foster Care Fortnight! Please join us to find out more about fostering and becoming a foster carer.

We have a free information session in Wigan on Wednesday this week (20 May) at 12pm. This is at Ince Community Centre and it will be an informal discussion about what is involved.

We are also keen to raise awareness of fostering overall and celebrate the hard work by all foster carers and professionals in the sector.

Please see details of the event on your website for Beacon Fostering
https://beaconfostering.com/events/find-out-about-becoming-a-foster-carer-locally-in-wigan-fostering-chat/

Every 15 minutes, on average, a child in the UK comes in care in need of fostering family. You can make a difference directly by becoming a foster carer. The Fostering Network estimates a shortage of 5,000 fostering families across England, with 700 for North West England.

Today was definitely a top five moment for 2026 so far.

I had the amazing chance to visit the wonderful team at Ince Community Centre to talk about launching the Unfiltered Parent Circle there… and honestly, it just felt right.

They were welcoming from the off and it is a genuinely sweet centre. It has that truly community focused feel.

We all know how much spaces matter. From the gut feeling you get the moment you walk in to the little gestures of kindness. This one has heart.

I also had a really positive conversation with Lyndsey from ABC Childcare about how we can best support families locally. Not just “run sessions”, but actually respond to what parents in Ince need, what’s missing and what would genuinely help.

That’s what this is about.
Building something with the community.

The Unfiltered Parent Circle starts on Monday at 10am… and I genuinely cannot wait - for more info, go check out our website:
