New shell building in the vacant industrial park. The Gold Leaf grants came from the funds of the big to***co settlements. Millions sent out to build these shell buildings in "hopes" of attracting a big business. So some "free" money, but you also see the town and county had to pony up money as well.

Just more spending and in this economy, not sure it's worth it. But over $2,000,000 for a metal building? That seem high to anyone else?

If your kids got a bunch of credit cards in your name and ran up an enormous debt that you were responsible for, how would you feel? What would you do?

Well, those crazy teenagers in Washington DC just recently hit $40 Trillion Dollars, your portion is $286,148. And yet we do nothing. We should be marching on the capital demanding better government.

And sooner or later, this crazy debt will affect you. Actually it already is, we are paying 1 Trillion in interest every year. And it's only going to get worse, until we vote for smarter people.

The first step is to stop spending money on stuff you don't need to be spending money on. Like paying legal fees for a new papers foia request because you simply failed to follow the law. Idiots!!

So they bought the new town hall in 2024 for $575,000 and you haven't heard much since. I knew they had an engineering study done, below you see it. Another $4,500,000 to make it into a useable property.

They don't have that much money. While I blame ex-town manager Al Leonard for making this mistake, your current Mayor and Town Council did the follow-thru and actually made the purchase. So there's plenty of BLAME to go around.

If this does not shock you, then I don't know what will. Just like the West 5th Street Incubator, would be cheaper to just build a new building. But this level of spending is way beyond anything I ever expected. Guess your taxes are going up.

I will admit that Tabor City seems to get a lot of grants, some of that can be attributed to we seem to have a lot of luck with a state senator being from Tabor. Certainly not a bad thing.

But just so you understand, all that free money comes with a cost, here you see they used $1,200,000 of your local tax dollars to get these grants. Certainly worth it for water and sewer lines. But this also happened on the failed West Fifth Street Incubator and it happened on the now vacant Train Depot.

So there is no free ride. So would you rather have an empty incubator and an empty train depot or a lower water and sewer bill? Or lower taxes? And the shell building, so far most of those seem to be empty.

Sorry this image is so large, but had to get it all in one shot. Down below is Mayor Harper saying that they have the "final closeout" on the west 5th street incubator, that was March of 2024. Since then there have been at least 2 more "additional" bids for "upgrades" to the facility. So the one here is the 3rd or 4th (can't keep count") bid package.

LOOK at the list of what they are doing. Light switches, walls, repair floor, add insulation. How was 2024 a closeout? It was never completed. Notice the mayor says "formal opening"?

Feel like you've been lied to? What's another $148,000. It's just money.

So what's happening with the new town hall that they paid $585,000 for. The tax value of that property (see below) was $34,900. It last sold for $100,000 just before the town bought it. Wonder why they paid so much, they bought it from a friend of then town manager Al Leonard. It's not the friends fault, I would sell my property for $485,000 over value, wouldn't you?

This was 2024, today 2026, nothing has happened to this property? Why? Two years? Notice Mr. Harpers comment "intended to serve the needs of our residents".

Paving your street, fixing all the flooding that happens every time we get a hard rain, that's not headline grabbing for them.

So Friday I drove out to the old building in the Industrial park, just to see how many cars where out there, in this picture you can clearly see ZERO. This is the building that Mayor Harper lied about needing a new parking lot for. That lot they claimed they needed for a parking lot was over 5 acres. That was the reason they could not build a big new business incubator there, sorry , that's the reason they gave. This was 2018.

In reality it was to move that business incubator to West 5th Street near Al Leonard's investments. Yep the ex town manager owned over 50% of the property on West 5th Street. They claimed in the news that they would do this parking lot with the county. So I contacted Gary Lanier (he was over that in 2018) and he had no knowledge of said parking lot.

And today, they are on their 4th bid package to try to finish that 1 business incubator. MILLIONs of your tax dollars. Its 2026, how many years does it take? Oh, that's right takes them a week to simply paint a street.

So let me be 100% clear, they LIED!!!

UPDATE: someone finally opened up main street.

In 6 days God created the heaven and earth. Tabor City can't paint a street in 6 days. Today is the 6th day of no business on main street due to the efforts of town manager Josh Ward.

Not one phone call, visit or post by anyone on town council!!! Not one. They Mayor could have walked across the street and apologized to these business owners, have not seen his face.

If they mismanaged this one simple project, how well have they done in the past, how much have they potentially wasted of your tax dollars through mismanagement?
