The Executive Director of the NGO “Durmish Aslano,” Mr. Fatmir Menekshe, presented the project “Strengthening Roma Media and Culture” as a panelist at the Impact Showcase & Networking Event, organized by The Foundation House.

Through this project, we achieved the following:
Produced a promotional video featuring all departments of the NGO “Durmish Aslano” – the Music Orchestra, Folk Ensemble, Roma Theatre “Nexhip Menekshe,” and Radio Romano Avazo.
Developed a new website for the NGO “Durmish Aslano” to document and promote its activities and contributors.
Redesigned the Radio Romano Avazo website to improve the organization and effective publication of news and content.
Registered Radio Romano Avazo on Radio Garden, expanding its accessibility to a wider audience.
Conducted training sessions for young people, focusing on developing their knowledge and skills in media, communication, and the promotion of Roma culture.
Organized a closing event to present the project’s achievements to donors, institutions, and partners.

Through these activities, the project contributed to strengthening Roma media, promoting Roma culture, and increasing the visibility and participation of the Roma community.

Today, we welcomed Anu Prattipati, Chargé d'Affaires of the U.S. Embassy in Kosovo, and Joanne Fairley, Country Director of Peace Corps Kosovo, to the offices of the Durmish Asllano NGO in Prizren.

We presented our mission and initiatives, including our community radio, Romani-language library, theater department, music ensemble, and efforts to preserve and promote Romani language, culture, and heritage in Kosovo.

We thank our distinguished guests for their visit and the opportunity to share our work and mission.

𝐏𝐔𝐁𝐋𝐈𝐂 𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐂𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍

Regarding the Preliminary Results Published by the Directorate of Culture, Youth and Sports of the Municipality of Prizren

We express our deep concern and indignation regarding the preliminary list published by the Directorate of Culture, Youth and Sports of the Municipality of Prizren concerning financial support in the fields of culture, youth and sports.

According to the published results:
In the field of culture, 26 organizations and 37 individuals were supported;
In the field of sports, 19 entities and 22 individuals were supported;
In the field of youth, 9 organizations and 7 individuals were supported.

However, what is alarming and unacceptable is the fact that NOT A SINGLE organization or individual from the Roma community appears among the beneficiaries in any of these fields.

How is it possible that in a multiethnic municipality such as Prizren, the Roma community is completely excluded from public support?
How can this total lack of representation be justified?
Why this discrimination and institutional inequality?

The Roma community in Prizren has made and continues to make an extraordinary contribution to culture, art, music, heritage and social life. Nevertheless, our activities and initiatives continue to remain without institutional support.

We publicly ask:
Why is the concert featuring traditional Roma songs and dances, organized by Durmish Aslano, not supported, despite its role in preserving and promoting Roma cultural heritage?
Why are Roma artistic exhibitions and cultural activities not supported?
Why are trainings for youth and women in handicrafts and cultural empowerment not supported?
Why is the only Roma magazine, “Yekhipe,” published by NGO Sakuntala, not considered worthy of support?
Why is the only Roma library left without support?
Why does the Roma Theatre “Nexhip Menekshe” continue to be ignored?

This is not merely a lack of financial support.
This is a clear form of cultural and institutional exclusion of the Roma community.

We call on the Directorate of Culture, Youth and Sports to provide:

Full transparency regarding the evaluation process;
A public explanation for the complete absence of Roma beneficiaries;
A reconsideration of the preliminary results;
Equal and dignified inclusion of non-majority communities in municipal policies related to culture, youth and sports.

The Municipality of Prizren cannot speak about diversity, culture and equality while completely excluding the Roma community from public support.

Silence in the face of this discrimination is not an option.

Lidhur me rezultatet preliminare të Drejtorisë për Kulturë, Rini dhe Sport në Komunën e Prizrenit

Shprehim shqetësimin dhe indinjatën tonë të thellë lidhur me listën preliminare të publikuar nga Drejtoria për Kulturë, Rini dhe Sport e Komunës së Prizrenit për mbështetjen financiare në fushën e kulturës, rinisë dhe sportit.

Sipas rezultateve të publikuara:
Në fushën e kulturës janë përkrahur 26 organizata dhe 37 individë;
Në fushën e sportit janë përkrahur 19 subjekte dhe 22 individë;
Në fushën e rinisë janë përkrahur 9 organizata dhe 7 individë.

Megjithatë, ajo që është alarmante dhe e papranueshme është fakti se ASNJË organizatë apo individ nga komuniteti rom nuk figuron përfitues në asnjërën nga këto fusha.

Si është e mundur që në një komunë multietnike si Prizreni, komuniteti rom të përjashtohet tërësisht nga mbështetja publike?
Si mund të arsyetohet kjo mungesë totale e përfaqësimit?
Pse ky diskriminim dhe kjo pabarazi institucionale?

Komuniteti rom në Prizren ka dhënë dhe vazhdon të japë kontribut të jashtëzakonshëm në kulturë, art, muzikë, trashëgimi dhe jetë shoqërore. Megjithatë, aktivitetet dhe iniciativat tona vazhdojnë të mbesin pa mbështetje institucionale.

Pyesim publikisht:

Pse nuk mbështetet koncerti me këngë dhe valle tradicionale rome i organizuar nga Durmish Aslano, që ruan dhe promovon trashëgiminë kulturore rome?
Pse nuk përkrahen ekspozitat artistike dhe aktivitetet kulturore të komunitetit rom?
Pse nuk mbështeten trajnimet për të rinj dhe gra në fushën e artizanateve dhe fuqizimit kulturor?
Pse revista e vetme rome “Yekhipe”, e botuar nga OJQ Sakuntala, nuk konsiderohet e denjë për përkrahje?
Pse biblioteka e vetme rome mbetet pa mbështetje?
Pse Teatri Rom “Nexhip Menekshe” vazhdon të injorohet?

Kjo nuk është vetëm mungesë përkrahjeje financiare.
Kjo është një formë e qartë e përjashtimit kulturor dhe institucional të komunitetit rom.

Kërkojmë nga Drejtoria për Kulturë, Rini dhe Sport:
Transparencë të plotë mbi procesin e vlerësimit;
Sqarim publik për mungesën totale të përfituesve romë;
Rishqyrtim të rezultateve preliminare;
Përfshirje të barabartë dhe dinjitoze të komuniteteve joshumicë në politikat komunale të kulturës, rinisë dhe sportit.

Komuna e Prizrenit nuk mund të flasë për diversitet, kulturë dhe barazi, ndërkohë që komuniteti rom përjashtohet plotësisht nga mbështetja publike.

Heshtja ndaj këtij diskriminimi nuk është opsion.
