FLEX Global mbështetet në trashëgiminë e programeve Future Leaders Exchange (FLEX) dhe Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange and Study (YES).

Programi financohet dhe administrohet nga Byroja për Çështje Arsimore dhe Kulturore e Departamentit Amerikan të Shtetit dhe zbatohet nga American Councils for International Education, në partneritet me AFS, Amideast dhe iEARN.

We’re happy to see our English Teaching Assistants (ETAs), James and Emma, who recently started their Fulbright grants in Kosova, bringing Kosova high schoolers together at the American Corner Prizren to discuss what connects our communities and cultures.

An important part of the discussion was introducing the FLEX Global program, a new U.S. Department of State exchange opportunity for high school students in Kosova, which is currently accepting applications!

📣 Applications for FLEX Global 2027-28 are NOW OPEN!

Discover FLEX Global--a new U.S. Department of State exchange opportunity for high school students in Kosova!

FLEX Global is an international exchange program that gives high school students the opportunity to spend an academic year in the United States, living with an American host family, attending a U.S. high school, and becoming part of their local community.

FLEX Global builds on the legacy of FLEX and YES and is funded and administered by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.

Who can apply?

Applicants must:
• Be born between July 15, 2009, and July 15, 2012, inclusive,
• Be in grade 9, 10, or 11 when applying,
• Be enrolled in and attending a secondary school in Kosova,
• Be in good academic standing,
• Have previously studied English and demonstrate English-language ability when applying,
• Meet U.S. visa eligibility requirements, and
• Be a citizen of Kosova and able to obtain a Kosova passport.

Applicants must also meet all other eligibility requirements listed on our website.

On September 28-30, in Prishtina, the United States-Kosovo Educational Exchange Board (USKEB) hosted a Welcome Gathering, followed by a two-day Arrival Orientation for the 2026-2027 Fulbright U.S. Students and Scholars in Kosovo.

The new cohort kicked off their time in the country with a gathering bringing together Fulbrighters, the U.S. Embassy Pristina, USKEB members, and partners for an evening of introductions, conversations, and connections.

Over the next two days, the Fulbrighters took part in the Arrival Orientation, with sessions led by U.S. Embassy representatives, the USKEB team and members, and a U.S. Fulbrighter. The program also included sessions on Kosovo’s higher education system, English language teaching, and community engagement.

The orientation concluded with a city tour, giving the Fulbrighters an opportunity to explore Prishtina and get to know their new surroundings.

Throughout the 2026-2027 academic year, Fulbright English Teaching Assistants (ETAs), Student Researchers, and Scholars will contribute to universities, institutions, and communities across Kosovo, including the University of Prishtina, the University of Prizren, the University of Mitrovica, the University of Gjilan, the University of Gjakova, Heimerer College, and American Corners.

On September 28, American Councils Kosova Country Director Gjeni Shporta participated in the National Roundtable on Workforce Development, hosted by the American Chamber of Commerce in Kosovo as part of its Workforce Development Initiative.

The roundtable brought together Minister of Education and Science Hajrullah Çeku, education stakeholders, and private sector representatives to discuss the role of education in workforce development, evolving skills needs, and opportunities to better align education with the labor market.

American Councils Kosova is a partner in AmCham’s Workforce Development Coalition, which brings together education and private sector stakeholders to strengthen cooperation, identify workforce needs, and support closer alignment between education and the skills required in the labor market.

Recruitment has begun for the YES Program: Spring Semester 2027!

The YES Program: Spring Semester 2027 is merit-based and open to high school students from Kosovo to travel to the U.S. in January 2027 and return home in June 2027.

The Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange and Study (YES) spring semester program, funded by the United States Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, is a merit-based program open to students from Kosovo born between July 15, 2008 and July 15, 2011.

High school students from Kosovo have the opportunity to spend an academic semester in the United States from January-June 2027 through the Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange and Study (YES) Program.

Selected students will:
• Live with an American host family
• Attend a U.S. high school
• Experience American culture and share Kosovo’s culture with their host community
• Develop leadership skills and build lasting connections

Eligibility:
Students in grades 10-12 for the 2026-27 academic year, born between July 15, 2008 and July 15, 2011, who meet the program’s eligibility requirements.

The newest YES alumni from the 2025-2026 cohort recently came together for a re-entry program to reflect on their exchange experience, reconnect with one another, and prepare for the next chapter of their journey as active alumni.

The program also included a series of group activities and opportunities for engagement with local community partners and program stakeholders.

Last week, the University of Prishtina, in partnership with the Government of the Republic of Kosovo and the United States-Kosovo Educational Exchange Board - USKEB, commemorated the 250th anniversary of the United States through a special event held as part of the Prishtina International Summer University. The gathering brought together government officials, diplomats, academics, exchange alumni, and visiting students to celebrate 250 years of American democracy and the enduring partnership between Kosovo and the United States.

Guests heard remarks from Professor Dr. Arben Hajrullahu, Rector of the University of Prishtina; Albin Kurti, Acting Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo; Wylita Bell, Acting Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Kosovo; and Audrey Coleman, Director of the Dole Institute of Politics at the University of Kansas.

Following the keynote remarks, a panel explored the significance of the U.S. semiquincentennial and the importance of active citizenship, community engagement, and international cooperation. The program concluded with a roundtable discussion, opened by Përparim Kryeziu, Acting Deputy Minister of Education and Science and alumnus of the Youth Exchange and Study (YES) program, where exchange alumni and visiting students shared their experiences and demonstrated the transformative role of educational exchange in shaping future leaders and strengthening U.S.-Kosovo relations.
