Save the Children Kosova/o

Save the Children Kosova/o WE ARE the world’s leading independent organisation for children.

Save the Children Kosova/o works in the following areas:

Education: Through our Inclusive Education program we aim to improve access to and quality of education by promoting inclusive and participatory approaches to the education of all children from marginalized groups, with a particular focus on pre-school, pre-primary and primary education; this also contributes to higher quality education for

all children. Our main partners are the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, the University of Prishtina, Municipal Education Offices, Civil Society Organizations, kindergartens, pre-primary and primary schools. Child Protection: Through our Child Protection program we aim to achieve integrated child-rights based protection systems at community and national level which provide functional family support services, poverty alleviation mechanisms, and policies that favor de-institutionalization. This program will support the development and strengthening of national child protection systems and establish a framework for monitoring violations of the rights of vulnerable children. Child Rights Governance: We work to ensure that duty bearers for children's rights at local levels in Kosovo and civil society organisations are aware of the children's rights situation and act in synergy to improve the situation of children. We also work to build the capacity of civil society organisations as well as the Ombudsperson to monitor and advocate for cooperation among different agencies working on child rights for better state funding of children's services; we also work to ensure that child participation and child-led groups are heard and institutionalised at a municipal level. Emergency: Bearing in mind Kosovo's specific socio-political situation, Save the Children Kosova/o closely monitors the political developments. Moreover, Kosova/o is also a country prone to floods and earthquakes, in which children are among the most vulnerable in disasters. We are dedicated to respond to any emergency that puts at great risk the survival, protection and well being of children, and has developed capacities in Emergency Preparedness Response, enabling the CO to respond to any emergency situation that might arise.

On World Day Against Child Labour, we reaffirm our commitment to protecting children's rights to safety, education, and a healthy, fulfilling childhood.

Child labour continues to deprive millions of children of opportunities to learn, develop, and achieve their full potential. Childhood should be a time for education, growth, and play, not work and exploitation.

Together with institutions, communities, families, and partners, we must strengthen our efforts to prevent child labour, support vulnerable families, and ensure access to quality education and protection services.

Today, we call on everyone to join us in creating a future where no child is forced to work at the expense of their well-being and development.

Let's work together to ensure that all children can learn, grow, and thrive.

🌱 What happens when young changemakers, environmental institutions, and international partners come together with a shared vision for the future?

Today, we joined forces with the Agjencioni per Mbrojtjen e Mjedisit te Kosoves (KEPA), the Naturvårdsverket (SwEPA), EcoZ, and the Utalaya Foundation to bring together children, environmental experts, and institutional representatives for a meaningful dialogue on biodiversity protection and sustainability.

The event marked the beginning of an exciting collaboration focused on protecting Kosovo’s natural environment while ensuring that children and young people have a voice in shaping environmental initiatives. Through engaging discussions and consultations, participants shared their ideas, expectations, and aspirations for future activities.

A key part of the discussion focused on the upcoming Summer School on biodiversity, which will take place soon. Children were consulted on what they would like to learn, experience, and achieve, helping us shape a program that is both relevant and engaging while strengthening their connection to nature and environmental stewardship.

One thing stood out throughout the day: young people are eager to contribute, innovate, and lead. Their passion, creativity, and commitment to environmental action will be invaluable as we work together to build a greener, more sustainable future.

We look forward to continuing this journey together and welcoming participants to the upcoming Summer School, where learning, exploration, and environmental action will come together to inspire the next generation of changemakers. 🌱

🌍 This World Environment Day, we are reminded that climate change is more than an environmental issue. It directly affects the lives, wellbeing, and future of children and young people.

The Young Voices 2024 Report highlights the concerns of young people across Kosovo, many of whom are worried about the impact of climate change and environmental degradation on their communities and future opportunities. Their perspectives reflect a growing awareness that protecting our planet requires urgent action from all of us.

💚 Young people are not only raising concerns; they are calling for solutions. By listening to their voices and involving them in decisions that shape our future, we can create a more sustainable, resilient, and inclusive world.

This World Environment Day, let's renew our commitment to protecting the environment and ensuring children can grow up in a healthy and sustainable world.

🚀 What does your future career look like? For dozens of young people in North Mitrovica, the journey started with exploring new opportunities and discovering their potential.

Today, young girls and boys from the Roma, Ashkali, and Egyptian communities participated in Career Orientation Day, an activity designed to provide valuable information on employment opportunities and help participants better understand the possibilities offered by the labour market.

Throughout the event, participants gained practical insights into the skills and knowledge required for different professions and learned where and how they can acquire and further develop these skills to enhance their employment prospects.

By empowering young people with information, guidance, and inspiration, Career Orientation Day contributes to building a more inclusive labour market and supporting informed career choices for the future.

On International Children's Day 🎉, we celebrated the creativity and imagination of children through a Painting Exhibition at SHFMU "Selman Riza" Fushë Kosovë. 🎨🖌️

The exhibition showcased artworks created by students, giving them the opportunity to express their ideas, emotions, and unique perspectives through art. 🌈✨

By sharing their creativity with classmates, teachers, and the wider community, the children demonstrated the power of self-expression and the importance of providing spaces where young talents can grow and thrive.

👏 A wonderful celebration of childhood, creativity, and the limitless potential of children.

On the occasion of International Children's Day, the Kosovar Gender Studies Center (KGSC) organized an advocacy meeting between the Ombudsperson Institution and the Chairperson of the Capital Children's Assembly, attended by Ombudsperson Mr. Naim Qelaj, Deputy Ombudsperson Ms. Anita Çavdarbasha Korenica, Alba Ajdarevikj, Project Manager at KGSC, and the Chairperson of the Capital Children's Assembly.

The meeting provided an important space for direct dialogue between children and institutions, where issues affecting children's well-being and everyday lives were discussed, including safety in schools, mechanisms for reporting violence, online violence, sexuality education, and the creation of safer and more inclusive environments. Discussions also focused on aligning the Strategy for Children's Rights with international standards and on the need for the meaningful participation of children in decision-making processes that affect their lives.

This activity was organized within the project “Empowering Children as Active Citizens for Their Rights and Gender Equality”, implemented in partnership with Save the Children in Kosovo and supported by SIDA.

Children should not only be beneficiaries of public policies, but also active participants in their design and monitoring.
