Save the Children Kosova/o

Save the Children Kosova/o WE ARE the world’s leading independent organisation for children.

Save the Children Kosova/o works in the following areas:

Education: Through our Inclusive Education program we aim to improve access to and quality of education by promoting inclusive and participatory approaches to the education of all children from marginalized groups, with a particular focus on pre-school, pre-primary and primary education; this also contributes to higher quality education for

all children. Our main partners are the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, the University of Prishtina, Municipal Education Offices, Civil Society Organizations, kindergartens, pre-primary and primary schools. Child Protection: Through our Child Protection program we aim to achieve integrated child-rights based protection systems at community and national level which provide functional family support services, poverty alleviation mechanisms, and policies that favor de-institutionalization. This program will support the development and strengthening of national child protection systems and establish a framework for monitoring violations of the rights of vulnerable children. Child Rights Governance: We work to ensure that duty bearers for children's rights at local levels in Kosovo and civil society organisations are aware of the children's rights situation and act in synergy to improve the situation of children. We also work to build the capacity of civil society organisations as well as the Ombudsperson to monitor and advocate for cooperation among different agencies working on child rights for better state funding of children's services; we also work to ensure that child participation and child-led groups are heard and institutionalised at a municipal level. Emergency: Bearing in mind Kosovo's specific socio-political situation, Save the Children Kosova/o closely monitors the political developments. Moreover, Kosova/o is also a country prone to floods and earthquakes, in which children are among the most vulnerable in disasters. We are dedicated to respond to any emergency that puts at great risk the survival, protection and well being of children, and has developed capacities in Emergency Preparedness Response, enabling the CO to respond to any emergency situation that might arise.

🤝 Turning commitment into action for more inclusive workplaces.

Save the Children Kosova/o is partnering with The Centre for Child Rights and Business to implement the Access to Decent Work for Youth Programme, supporting companies to create safer, more accessible and more inclusive employment opportunities for young people, particularly young people with disabilities.

Together, we worked with LC Waikiki, Korporata Rugove and ELNOR to assess their employment practices and explore practical pathways towards inclusive recruitment and workplaces.

Through consultations with HR and management teams, we examined workforce needs, recruitment challenges, internal processes and potential roles for young people with disabilities. Workplace walkthroughs also helped us assess accessibility, safety, transport considerations, supervision needs and reasonable adjustments across retail, production, packaging, logistics and support functions.

Meetings with Resource Centres, Disabled Persons’ Organisations and employment-support organisations strengthened connections between employers and potential candidates. The discussions addressed candidate referrals, job coaching, disability-specific guidance, training, mentoring and ongoing workplace support.

The activities concluded with a joint company workshop exploring child rights and responsible business principles, disability inclusion, inclusive recruitment, workplace adjustments, accessible onboarding and manager preparation. Participants challenged common misconceptions and identified practical steps towards more inclusive workplaces.

The programme is being implemented under the project “Enhancing well-being of children and youth with disabilities through improved social inclusion in Kosovo,” funded by Sida through the Embassy of Sweden in Pristina.

By bringing companies and employment-support organisations together, we strengthened practical pathways towards decent work and more inclusive, diverse and sustainable workplaces.

📊 Learning together to strengthen future impact.

Meaningful change begins with listening, reflecting, and learning from experience.

As part of the Empowerment of Kosovo Vulnerable Communities Through Better and Equal Access to the Labour Market project, funded by the Austrian Development Agency (ADA), we brought together partners and key stakeholders for a Validation Workshop to review the findings of the project's external evaluation.

The workshop provided a valuable opportunity to validate key findings, reflect on the project's relevance, effectiveness, impact, sustainability, and cross-cutting themes, and discuss recommendations that will shape the final evaluation report. Through open dialogue and collaborative discussions, participants shared their expertise, experiences, and perspectives, helping ensure that the evaluation accurately reflects both the project's achievements and the lessons learned throughout its implementation.

Every evaluation is more than a reflection on past achievements. It is an opportunity to improve the way we work, strengthen partnerships, and maximize our impact. The insights gathered during the workshop will help inform future interventions that create more inclusive and equitable labour market opportunities for vulnerable communities across Kosovo.

A heartfelt thank you to all participants for their active engagement, thoughtful contributions, and continued commitment to creating lasting change.

🌍 Young people are not just the leaders of tomorrow. Their voices matter today.

This International Youth Day, we celebrate young people as active participants in shaping their communities, their futures, and the decisions that affect their lives.

Meaningful participation begins with making sure young people know their rights, have opportunities to learn about them, and feel confident using their voices. It also means creating spaces where their views are not only heard, but respected and taken into account.

Through Young Voices 2024, children and young people shared their experiences, concerns, and perspectives on issues that matter to them, including education, participation, inclusion, safety, and their rights. Their voices remind us that learning and empowerment can happen in many different spaces, both inside and outside the classroom.

When young people are given the knowledge, opportunities, and support to participate, they can contribute meaningfully to the decisions and changes that shape their lives and communities.

Listening is an important first step. Acting on what young people tell us is what makes participation meaningful. 💙

🤝 Lasting impact begins with strong partnerships and a shared vision.

Effective collaboration is essential to strengthening social services and creating sustainable change for children and families. As part of the Civil Society Strengthening project, funded by Sida, we held a coordination meeting with the Department for Social and Family Services at the Ministria për Punë, Familje dhe Vlerat e Luftës Çlirimtare and our CSO partners.

The meeting served as an important platform to strengthen coordination among project partners, review the progress of ongoing activities, and ensure that our collective efforts remain aligned with the project's objectives. Through constructive discussions, participants jointly planned upcoming activities, reflected on lessons learned, identified priorities for the coming months, and agreed on the next steps for implementation.

Beyond planning, the meeting also provided an opportunity to explore new avenues for collaboration between public institutions and civil society organizations, reinforcing the value of partnership in delivering more responsive and sustainable social services. By fostering continuous dialogue and shared ownership, we are building stronger systems that better support children, families, and communities across Kosovo.

Together, we continue turning collaboration into meaningful action and lasting impact.

🎓 Investing in career guidance means investing in young people's futures.

Together with the Agjencia për Arsim dhe Aftësim Profesional dhe Arsimin e të Rriturve, we organized a workshop to advance the development of the Level V Qualification Programme for Career Counselors in upper secondary schools and gymnasiums.

The workshop brought together experts and practitioners to review and strengthen the draft programme, focusing on the curriculum structure, learning modules, learning outcomes, assessment instruments, and module content. Through collaborative group work and discussions, participants shared recommendations that will contribute to the finalization of a high-quality qualification programme for future career counselors.

By strengthening the skills and competencies of career counselors, we are supporting better career guidance services and helping young people make informed decisions about their education and future employment.

This workshop is part of the project “Empowering vulnerable communities in Kosovo through improved and equal access to the labour market”, funded by Austrian Development Agency.

💬 Children's voices are shaping a safer digital future.

Children from across Kosovo came together to share their experiences, perspectives, and ideas about life online as part of the iMatterOnline project.

Through interactive focus group discussions, participants explored both the opportunities and challenges of the digital world, from learning, creativity, and communication to online safety, privacy, cyberbullying, discrimination, and the growing role of artificial intelligence. The discussions provided a safe and inclusive space where children could openly express what helps them thrive online, what concerns them, and what changes they believe are needed to make the digital environment safer for all.

The insights gathered will contribute to the development of recommendations, resources, and policies that promote children's rights in the digital space, ensuring that children's voices help shape safer and more inclusive online environments in Kosovo and across Europe.

This World Youth Skills Day, we celebrate the ambitions, determination, and potential of young people who are building their futures through skills development.

Every skill learned is a step towards greater confidence, opportunity, and independence. By investing in vocational education and training, we are helping young people turn their aspirations into reality.

🌿 Inspiring the next generation of environmental champions in Kosovo 🌱

Over the last week, children and young people from across Kosovo participated in Save the Children Kosova/o's Inclusive Summer School, where they explored, learned, and took action for a greener and more sustainable future. Through an interactive and inclusive programme, participants strengthened their understanding of environmental protection while developing the skills to become advocates for change in their own communities.

The Summer School opened with representatives from Save the Children, the Ombudsperson Institution, and Agjencioni per Mbrojtjen e Mjedisit te Kosoves, highlighting the importance of collective action to protect both children and the environment. Throughout the programme, participants explored Kosovo's protected areas, flora, fauna, biodiversity, and ecosystem services, while gaining valuable insights from experts from the Kosovo Environmental Protection Agency, Naturvårdsverket, EcoZ, and Utalaya Foundation. 🌿🦋🌲

Beyond learning about nature, children and young people strengthened their understanding of meaningful child participation and discovered how environmental advocacy can inspire positive change. Through collaborative workshops, they identified environmental challenges affecting their communities, analysed their root causes, defined campaign objectives, identified target audiences, planned activities, and even developed campaign budgets. By transforming ideas into practical solutions, participants took important steps towards creating campaigns that can make a lasting impact. 💡📣🌍

The programme concluded with outdoor learning activities in nature, encouraging participants to connect their newly acquired knowledge with the environment around them and reflect on the role they can play in protecting Kosovo's natural heritage for future generations. 🌄💚

The Inclusive Summer School brought together 39 children and young people from diverse backgrounds across Kosovo, equipping them with new knowledge 📚, practical advocacy skills 🛠️, and the confidence to become ambassadors for environmental sustainability and inclusive change in their communities.

This activity was implemented as part of the project "Enhancing well-being of children and youth with disabilities through improved social inclusion in Kosovo", financed by Sida through the Embassy of Sweden in Pristina. 🇸🇪
