Strengthening regional alumni cooperation in Kosovo

As part of MAAA's ongoing regional engagement under the "Balkan Alumni Summit 2025", earlier this month, MAAA President Ognen Janeski visited KUSA - Kosovo United States Alumni in Prishtina for a working meeting with Fisnik Ahmeti and Greta Imeri from KUSA, alongside Lejla Selimi and Alba Riza from the U.S. Embassy Pristina, Kosovo.

The meeting focused on the progress achieved through activities supported by MAAA for KUSA, the sustainability of current projects, and opportunities to further strengthen regional cooperation among U.S. Government exchange alumni associations.

It was encouraging to learn more about KUSA's "Porta 01" podcast, which is already generating significant interest among young audiences and creating a new platform for sharing alumni experiences, educational opportunities, and leadership stories. The project demonstrates how regional support can contribute to sustainable initiatives that continue creating impact well beyond the initial grant period.

Our discussions also explored future opportunities for collaboration, exchange of experiences, and continued support for building stronger alumni communities across the Western Balkans.

Thank you to KUSA and our friends from the U.S. Embassy in Kosovo for the warm welcome, productive discussions, and continued partnership.

KUSA is pleased to share the upcoming “Americana” concert by the Kosovo Philharmonic, celebrating the richness, creativity, and global influence of American music through the works of iconic composers such as Leonard Bernstein and George Gershwin.

The Freedom 250 Art Exhibition, an initiative of the U.S. Embassy in Prishtina U.S. Embassy Pristina, Kosovo , in cooperation with the Directorate of Culture Drejtoria e Kulturës and the Municipal Directorate of Education of the Municipality of Prishtina Drejtoria e Arsimit , brings together the creativity and imagination of students from grades 6–9 in Pristina.

Through painting and drawing, the students reflected on the values of freedom, democracy, creativity, and the lasting friendship between Kosovo and the United States.

The exhibition will be open to all visitors until July 4, 2026, at the Art Gallery in Prishtina - Pallati i Rinse.

We were delighted to welcome a delegation of 10 representatives from the Greater Des Moines YMCA in Iowa, USA, to KUSA today.
As part of their visit, they learned more about KUSA's mission, programmes, and the impact of our work in empowering communities across Kosovo. The visit provided a valuable opportunity to exchange experiences, share ideas, and strengthen connections between our organizations.
The delegation is spending their final week in Kosovo as part of the long-standing partnership between YMCA Kosovo and the Greater Des Moines YMCA, a collaboration that continues to foster youth exchange, leadership, and international friendship.

The KUSA Economic Growth Team, in cooperation with the Public Diplomacy Section of the U.S. Embassy in Pristina, had the pleasure of organizing a roundtable discussion on “Investment in Kosovo: Challenges, Bottlenecks, and Opportunities for Reform.”
The discussion brought together representatives from the Ministry of Industry, Entrepreneurship, Trade and Innovation (MIETI), the private sector, and the KUSA alumni network to exchange perspectives on strengthening Kosovo’s investment environment and turning opportunities into concrete outcomes.

The conversation focused on practical reforms, stronger institutional coordination, investor confidence, access to finance, and the importance of continued public-private dialogue.

A sincere thank you to all speakers, participants, and partners for contributing to such an open, constructive, and meaningful discussion. We look forward to continuing these conversations and supporting efforts that contribute to Kosovo’s economic development.

KUSA continues expanding its cooperation with higher education institutions across Kosovo. Today, we signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the “Ukshin Hoti” University in Prizren, aiming to create more opportunities for students and academic staff in areas such as education, professional development, mentorship, internships, and joint projects.
This partnership will also strengthen the role of alumni in initiatives related to innovation, economic development, rule of law, and social inclusion, while building stronger connections between academia and professionals shaped through U.S. exchange programs.
We thank Rector Prof. Assoc. Dr. Mentor Alishani and the University Ukshin Hoti for the warm welcome and willingness to build long-term cooperation for the benefit of students and the academic community.
