The Center for Research, Documentation and Publication (CRDP), as well as a growing number of experts in the field of transitional justice, believe a strong rule of law, sustainable peace and a stable democracy can only be achieved once a country has dealt with their past. Addressing and redressing past violations has been proven, not only to help the individual victims attain truth and justice, b

ut also to assist whole communities in their healing process. As an organization that specializes in Dealing with the Past (DwP), CRDP views transitional justice as an essential part of a country’s development and transition from conflict and oppression to peace and democracy. In order for this approach to be effective it must involve a wide spectrum of supporters, including civil society, the state, ethnic minorities, women and youth. An inclusive approach that will utilize the mechanisms of transitional justice (truth commissions, trials, reforms, lustration, and memorialization) can raise awareness about the consequences of war and help prevent its re occurrence in the future.
