People in Need Kosovo People in Need is a Czech NGO aiming to improve the lifes of the most vulnerable populations in Kosovo. The mission was first established in 1998.

People in Need’s activities in Kosovo have a long tradition. The organization came to the region during the armed conflict in 1998 and provided humanitarian aid to refugees and people affected by the war. During that time, the collection campaign SOS Kosovo also took place in the Czech Republic and awakened great interest among the public. After the end of armed clashes, People in Need focused mai

nly on the reconstruction of Kosovo schools and health facilities. In 2002, we suspended our activities in Kosovo, but returned to the country eight years later. The organization’s present activities are aimed at the most vulnerable groups of inhabitants. It therefore includes working with organisations for the blind and deaf, activities in the area of rights for people with mental disabilities and the support of inclusive education for children from minorities.

Javën e kaluar, më 19 dhe 20 maj, katër nxënës së bashku me dy profesorë nga Kosova morën pjesë në shkollën verore të organizuar në Zagreb. Përveç pjesëmarrësve nga Kosova, në këtë aktivitet morën pjesë edhe nxënës dhe profesorë nga Kroacia, Serbia dhe Bosnja e Hercegovina.
Gjatë këtyre dy ditëve, pjesëmarrësit patën mundësinë të mësojnë më shumë për kulturën e kujtesës dhe përkujtimit të gjenocidit ndaj romëve gjatë Luftës së Dytë Botërore në Kroaci dhe më gjerë, si dhe për gjenocidin e Srebrenicës të vitit 1995.
Në kuadër të shkollës verore, pjesëmarrësit vizituan edhe memorialet kushtuar viktimave të kampeve të përqendrimit në Jasenovac dhe Ushticë nga periudha e Luftës së Dytë Botërore.
Ky aktivitet u organizua në kuadër të projektit “Fuqizimi i të rinjve përmes historisë”, i implementuar nga People in Need, Kali Sara dhe Youth Initiative for Human Rights. Projekti mbështetet nga Bashkimi Evropian.

Last week, on May 19 and 20, four students together with two professors from Kosovo participated in the summer school organized in Zagreb. In addition to the participants from Kosovo, students and professors from Croatia, Serbia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina also took part in the activity.
During these two days, participants had the opportunity to learn more about the culture of remembrance and commemoration of the genocide against Roma people during World War II in Croatia and beyond, as well as about the Srebrenica genocide of 1995.
As part of the summer school, participants also visited the memorials dedicated to the victims of the concentration camps in Jasenovac and Ustica from the period of World War II.
This activity was organized within the framework of the project “Empowering Youth through History,” implemented by People in Need, Kali Sara, and Youth Initiative for Human Rights. The project is supported by the European Union.

📚 Javën e kaluar në Kosovë...

Edukatorët dhe aktivistët e shoqërisë civile kanë nisur mbajtjen e orëve mësimore të historisë, duke sjellë një qasje të re dhe frymëzuese për të rinjtë.

📍 Dy sesionet e para u zhvilluan në Universitetin “Haxhi Zeka” në Pejë dhe në Gjimnazin Shoqëror “Zenel Hajdini” në Gjilan.

🎬 Mësimet u realizuan përmes metodologjisë OWIS (One World in Schools – Një Botë në Shkolla), e cila integron filmin dokumentar në mësimdhënie. Kjo qasje synon të edukojë të rinjtë mbi gjenocidet – përfshirë Holokaustin, Samudaripen dhe gjenocidin në Srebrenicë – duke përdorur filma dokumentarë si mjete të fuqishme edukative.

🌍 Aktivitetet po zhvillohen në shkolla, universitete dhe qendra rinore në mbarë Kosovën, në kuadër të projektit “Fuqizimi i të rinjve përmes historisë”.

Ky projekt zbatohet në katër vende të rajonit – Kroaci, Bosnje dhe Hercegovinë, Kosovë dhe Serbi – dhe mbështetet nga Bashkimi Evropian përmes programit CERV.

📚 Last week in Kosovo...

Educators and civil society activists launched a new cycle of history lessons, bringing an engaging and impactful learning approach to young people.

📍 The first sessions were held at “Haxhi Zeka” University in Peja and at the “Zenel Hajdini” Social Sciences Gymnasium in Gjilan.

🎬 The lessons were delivered using the OWIS (One World in Schools) methodology, which integrates documentary film into teaching. This approach aims to educate youth about genocides – including the Holocaust, the Samudaripen, and the genocide in Srebrenica – by using documentary films as powerful educational tools.

🌍 Activities are being implemented in schools, universities, and youth centers across Kosovo as part of the project “Youth Empowerment through History.”

Vikendin e kaluar u mbajt një trajnim dyditor me mësimdhënës, edukatore dhe aktivistë të shoqërisë civile, me qëllim të trajnimit të tyre në metodologjinë e përdorimit të filmit dokumentar – OWIS (One World in Schools – Një Botë në Shkolla). Përmes kësaj metodologjie synohet edukimi i të rinjve mbi gjenocidet e Holokaustit, Samudaripen dhe atë në Srebrenicë, përmes shfaqjes së filmave dokumentarë në shkolla dhe qendra joformale të edukimit të të rinjve.
Gjatë dy ditëve të trajnimit, mbi 25 pjesëmarrës patën mundësinë që, së bashku me trajnerët, të shikojnë filmat e përzgjedhur për t’u përdorur në edukimin e të rinjve. Më pas, përmes punës në grupe, u diskutuan mesazhet kryesore dhe pyetjet që këta filma mund të nxisin te të rinjtë pas shfaqjes së tyre.
Së shpejti do të fillojë edhe implementimi i kësaj metodologjie nëpër shkolla dhe qendra joformale të edukimit të të rinjve.
Ky trajnim u mbajt në kuadër të projektit “Fuqizimi i të rinjve përmes historisë”, i cili implementohet në katër shtete të rajonit: Kroaci, Bosnje dhe Hercegovinë, Kosovë dhe Serbi, dhe mbështetet nga Bashkimi Evropian përmes programit CERV.

Last weekend, a two-day training was held with teachers, educators, and civil society activists, aiming to train them in the methodology of using documentary films – OWIS (One World in Schools). Through this methodology, the education of young people on the genocides of the Holocaust, the Samudaripen, and the genocide in Srebrenica is promoted through the screening of documentary films in schools and non-formal youth education centers.
During the two days of training, more than 25 participants had the opportunity, together with the trainers, to watch the films selected for use in youth education. This was followed by group work, during which the main messages and questions that these films may raise among young people after the screenings were discussed.
The implementation of this methodology in schools and non-formal youth education centers will begin soon.
This training was held as part of the project “Youth Empowerment through History”, which is implemented in four countries of the region: Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, and Serbia, and is supported by the European Union through the CERV Programme.
