Science for Change Kosovo Movement is a radical youth-led environmental movement. Started on 2014 as an experimental pilot project aiming to investigate air pollution in three locations across Kosovo – Science for Change Kosovo Movement has expanded its scope of work into three main sectors: non-formal environmental education; air quality monitoring; mobilization, campaigning and action. These thr
ee sectors are carried out by three Committees who are responsible for each sector: Education Committee; Monitoring & Research Committee; Campaigning and Mobilisation Committee. The Committees meet every month, the first Monday of the month, through General Assemblies where they discuss issues around the movement, outcomes and early results, engage in critical reflections, and take decisions through consensus as a direct democratic decision-making method. It's now possible for people to make measurements of air quality and other forms of pollution in their own communities through digital and non-digital measuring devices which make it possible to map & share data in real time over the internet. In this project, the community is at the heart of the scientific inquiry; not just measuring data, but deciding what and where it is important to measure, and taking part in analysing the results. The movement will be able to use the data for campaigning, advocacy and mobilization to improve their situations, based on the enforcement of legal standards and environmental principles. In the process, the Committee Members will learn skills related to science & technology, increase their understanding of the impact of pollution on health and wellbeing, and feel in a stronger position to ask questions and take action. Science for Change Kosovo Movement believes that all the common goods (i.e. air, water, and other natural resources) should not be owned, polluted and destroyed, instead, they should be collectively protected, managed and shared equally. Science for Change Kosovo Movement function under the umbrella of “Making Sense” European consortium project, and is legally represented by NGO “Peer Educators Network” in Prishtina.
