The American Chamber of Commerce in Kosovo was founded in 2004 for the purpose of supporting the development of mutually beneficial economic relations between the United States of America and Kosovo, to advance the interests and views of U.S. business in Kosovo, to uphold the highest standards of commercial practice, and to interpret the point of view of Kosovo authorities to the American business public. Through AmCham Kosovo, business people of the United States and the host country come together and promote their mutual interests. AmCham is accredited by the United States Chamber of Commerce and is a member of the European Council of American Chambers (AmChams in Europe), which is the largest network of international chambers of commerce in Europe.

We were happy to host at AmCham Mary Tikalsky, Director of World Service, Global Relations and Community Engagement at YMCA of the USA, and Dorina Lluka Davies, West Balkan Regional Lead at YMCA, who met with AmCham's Executive Director, A***n Zeka.

The meeting provided an opportunity to learn more about the work and initiatives of YMCA USA and YMCA Balkans, as well as to explore potential areas of future cooperation with YMCA Kosovo.

Discussions focused on opportunities for collaboration in youth empowerment, skills development, and strengthening connections between Kosovo and the United States.

As part of the Future Leaders Club, the American Chamber of Commerce in Kosovo organized the “AI vs. Industries” workshop, led by Darsej Rizaj.

The session focused on the practical application of artificial intelligence in addressing professional challenges and improving work processes. Through an interactive approach, the workshop enabled participants to explore concrete ways in which this technology can be leveraged to identify solutions and enhance efficiency at both the individual and organizational levels.
The practical segment of the workshop addressed the challenges participants encounter in their professional roles, examining how artificial intelligence can be utilized to tackle these issues and streamline work processes.

The discussion highlighted the importance of adapting professional skills and harnessing AI to create value within an ever-evolving labor market.

Accreditation in Kosovo remains an evolving field, playing a vital role in advancing quality infrastructure and enhancing the reliability of testing, inspection, and certification results. These topics were the focus of a meeting between the American Chamber of Commerce, representatives of its member companies, and the General Directorate of Accreditation of Kosovo (DAK).

DAK was represented at the meeting by Irfan Lipovica, General Director, Ardiana Shala Krrabaj, Director of the Department for Accreditation and Development and Safete Rexhepi, Head of the Accreditation Division. The discussion covered current accreditation schemes, the requirements and processes for the accreditation of Conformity Assessment Bodies (CABs), and the benefits that accreditation offers to both businesses and consumers.

During the meeting, the existing accreditation schemes for Conformity Assessment Bodies (CABs) were presented, which include testing and calibration laboratories, medical laboratories, inspection bodies, and product certification bodies. Currently, four accreditation schemes are in operation, with three others under development. Furthermore, the importance of continuous surveillance, documentation, and comparative assessments in ensuring the reliability of results was discussed.

Increasing business awareness regarding the benefits of accreditation remains important for advancing quality and strengthening competitiveness in the market.

Akreditimi në Kosovë mbetet një fushë në zhvillim, me rëndësi për avancimin e infrastrukturës së cilësisë dhe rritjen e besueshmërisë së rezultateve të testimit, inspektimit dhe certifikimit. Këto çështje ishin në fokus të takimit të Odës Amerikane dhe përfaqësuesve të kompanive anëtare me Drejtorinë e Përgjithshme të Akreditimit të Kosovës (DAK).

Në takim, DAK u përfaqësua nga Irfan Lipovica, Drejtor i Përgjithshëm, Ardiana Shala Krrabaj, Drejtore e Departamentit për Akreditim dhe Zhvillim dhe Safete Rexhepi, Udhëheqëse e Divizionit për Akreditim, me të cilët u diskutua për skemat aktuale të akreditimit, kërkesat dhe procesin e akreditimit për Trupat e Vlerësimit të Konformitetit, si dhe përfitimet që akreditimi sjell për bizneset dhe konsumatorët.

Gjatë takimit u prezantuan skemat aktuale të akreditimit për Trupat e Vlerësimit të Konformitetit (TVK), të cilat përfshijnë laboratorët testues dhe kalibrues, laboratorët mjekësorë, trupat inspektues dhe trupat e certifikimit të produkteve. Aktualisht, janë në zbatim katër skema të akreditimit, ndërsa tri të tjera janë në zhvillim. Gjithashtu, u diskutua për rëndësinë e mbikëqyrjes së vazhdueshme, dokumentimit dhe vlerësimeve krahasuese për të siguruar besueshmërinë e rezultateve.

Rritja e ndërgjegjësimit të bizneseve për përfitimet e akreditimit mbetet e rëndësishme për avancimin e cilësisë dhe forcimin e konkurrueshmërisë në treg.

In today’s business environment, sustainability and responsible practices are increasingly linked to competitiveness, market access, and investment. The Regional ESG Conference, "Turn ESG into Business Value," brought together representatives from Albania and Kosovo to discuss how ESG integration creates value and strengthens business competitiveness.

Organized by the Albanian ESG Network, AmCham Albania and AmCham Kosovo, with the support of the Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Albania and media partner Business Magazine Albania, the conference addressed the practical implementation of ESG and regional cooperation.

The panel "Ecosystem and Partnerships: From Individual Efforts to Collective Impact" moderated by Neritan Mullaj, Executive Director of the American Chamber of Commerce in Albania, Valentina Gara from Pristina International Airport, Afrika Zyferi from IPKO, and A***n Zeka, Executive Director of the American Chamber of Commerce in Kosovo discussed sustainable business practices and the importance of collaboration among the private sector, financial institutions, and policymakers.

Kosovo is making rapid strides in developing its defense industry, with continued cooperation between the public and private sectors supported by strategic partners, making these advances more sustainable. This was highlighted during a meeting between members of the American Chamber of Commerce and Minister of Defense Ejup Maqedonci, which was also attended by representatives from the U.S. Embassy in Pristina.

Sharing his vision for the development of the defense industry, Minister Maqedonci discussed legislative drafting, the growth of local enterprises, and the potential for technological innovation. He also commended the partnership with the American Chamber of Commerce over the past two years, including the organization of the inaugural drone competition.
Minister Maqedonci further emphasized the importance of collaboration with other institutions, particularly the Ministry of Education and education service providers, to develop the workforce needed for the defense industry.

The working breakfast was organized with the support of Stridar Kosovo, as the sponsor of the meeting.

The American Chamber of Commerce in Kosovo welcomes the completion of the institutional architecture of the Republic of Kosovo through the election of Justina Shiroka P**a as President of the Republic.

With Kosovo’s institutions now fully constituted, the focus must turn firmly toward the country’s economic and strategic priorities. A competitive economy requires the right skills and a stronger private sector voice in shaping workforce policies.

As part of AmCham Kosovo’s Workforce Development Initiative, supported by the Center for International Private Enterprise (CIPE), the National Roundtable on Workforce Development brought together government, business, and education stakeholders, informed by evidence gathered from AmCham members and the broader business community.

Minister of Education and Science Hajrulla Çeku spoke about the Ministry’s efforts to develop a new education strategy and the importance of cooperation with the private sector to ensure that education policies and reforms better respond to the needs of the economy and labor market. The private sector perspective was provided by Dhurata Robaj, Abdylkerim Ratkoceri, and Blerim Zogaj.
