The second anniversary of the MCC-Kosovo Compact brought together institutions, energy experts, private sector representatives, academia, and partners to reflect on the progress achieved and the vision ahead for Kosovo’s energy future.

From advancing one of the region’s largest Energy Storage System projects, to strengthening energy security, supporting development, and expanding in the energy sector, the Compact continues to drive lasting change across Kosovo.

The collaboration between the Government of Kosovo, the U.S. Government, through Millennium Challenge Corporation - MCC, and MCA-Kosovo continues to play a key role in building a more secure energy system for Kosovo.

Thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey over the past two years. The work continues and the future of energy in Kosovo is only getting brighter.

The last panel discussion during the MCC-Kosovo Compact anniversary event, “Financing the Energy Sector in Kosovo – Opportunities, Mechanisms, and Stakeholder Engagement”, brought together representatives from Kosovo Credit Guarantee Fund, KfW, IFC - International Finance Corporation, and the EBRD European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in Kosovo. The panel explored how energy projects can effectively access and leverage funding from international donors, development banks, and financial institutions.

By strengthening collaboration between financial institutions, donors, and the private sector, we are creating stronger pathways for investment in Kosovo’s energy future.

Representatives from KIMERK - Metal Industry and Renewable Energy Cluster of Kosovo, the Employment Agency of Kosovo, the University of Prishtina, and Solarit Academy came together during the Future Energy Workforce panel to explore how the sector can develop the workforce needed to navigate technological development and meet the demands of a changing market, as part of the second anniversary of the MCC-Kosovo Compact.

At the second anniversary of MCC-Kosovo Compact, the Energy Security and System Transformation panel brought together leaders from Kosovo Transmission, System and Market Operator – KOSTT, Kosovo Energy Corporation j.s.c, KESCO Energy, Ministry of Economy and MCA-Kosovo to explore how energy storage, and advanced grid operations can work together to strengthen reliability and enable the next era of energy development.

Through strategic investments and technological innovation, Kosovo is designing and implementing one of the most innovative power systems in the region.

⚡ Strengthening energy security through partnership and innovation! Two years of the MCC-Kosovo Compact are advancing Kosovo’s energy future.

“This important investment is strengthening energy security by improving the reliability of electricity supply and supporting long-term shared economic growth,” stated the Chargé d’Affaires of the United States Mission to the Republic of Kosovo, Anu Prattipati, during the 2nd anniversary event of the MCC-Kosovo Compact.

The importance of the Compact for Kosovo’s future energy was also emphasized by MCC Resident Country Director Rinor Gjonbalaj. “The Compact aims to strengthen energy security through four key areas: infrastructure investment through battery storage systems, institutional strengthening through energy sector reforms and technical assistance, workforce development in the energy sector, and attracting private sector investment through cooperation with the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC),” he stated.

🔋 Through strategic investments, institutional strengthening, and workforce development, the MCC-Kosovo Compact continues to support a more secure and resilient energy future for Kosovo.

⚡ From vision to implementation! Two years of the MCC-Kosovo Compact are driving change in Kosovo’s energy sector.

“We have completed the design and, in close coordination with MCC, have advanced to the final procurement stage for the Battery Energy Storage System — a strategic investment with a capacity of 340 MWh that will increase the stability and flexibility of Kosovo’s energy system,” said Chief Executive Officer of MCA-Kosovo, Florina Duli-Sefaj during the anniversary event.

A major step forward was also highlighted by the Acting Minister of Economy of the Republic of Kosovo, Artane Rizvanolli. “The Energy Storage Corporation (ESCorp) has been established and will own 250 MWh of this capacity, while 90 MWh will be owned by KOSTT. We plan to appoint the Board of this public enterprise this week, marking its full operationalization and the addition of an important new entity to our energy sector.”

🔋 With 340 MWh of battery storage capacity underway, Kosovo is becoming a country with one of the most innovative projects in the region and the largest investment in the past decades.
