Leveraging diaspora potential for the Western Balkans’ future.

Today in Tirana, IOM, AICS Tirana and partners from across the region are taking stock of progress and looking ahead at how diaspora engagement can contribute to stronger regional cooperation, socio-economic development and the Western Balkans’ path towards the EU.

By connecting people, skills and opportunities across borders, we can help turn diaspora engagement into a driver of opportunity and development, for communities in the region and for those who remain connected to it from abroad.

The discussion took place as part of the Regional Project Steering Committee for the “Leveraging the Potential of Diaspora to Advance EU Accession and Labour Mobility in the Western Balkans” project, financially supported by AICS Tirana and Ministero degli Affari Esteri e della Cooperazione Internazionale.

On International Translation Day, we recognize the essential work of interpreters who help bridge communication gaps and ensure equal access to information, services, and rights. Through its support to interpreters and institutions over the years, IOM has contributed to strengthening inclusion and improving access to services for displaced persons, vulnerable groups, and communities across Kosovo.

Strengthening local ownership of the Platform for Communities!

IOM brought together key stakeholders to support the transfer of platform management to the Office for Community Affairs (OCA).

Launched with support from the British Embassy Pristina and Embassy of Switzerland in Kosovo, the platform improves transparency, access to information, and community engagement across Kosovo.

The official handover is set for September 2026, ensuring long-term sustainability and institutional ownership.

Bringing together key actors to strengthen support for migrants in Kosovo.

IOM Kosovo and the MIA convened employers, private colleges, healthcare providers, and other stakeholders for a networking and information-sharing event focused on employment opportunities, labour rights, and access to services for migrants.

The event also introduced new information packages and referral mechanisms that will help migrants better navigate and access the services available to them.

This activity is implemented under the project “Accelerating EU Accession and Labour Mobility in the Western Balkans through Diaspora Engagement,” supported by AICS Tirana and Ministero degli Affari Esteri e della Cooperazione Internazionale.
