Youth Initiative for Human Rights - Kosovo (YIHR KS)

🌍🤝 As part of our peacebuilding activities, a diverse group of young people from different communities came together for an educational excursion across Kosovo. The visit aimed to promote understanding, dialogue, empathy, and reflection on the country's past and present.

🏙️ During the day, participants visited both South and North Mitrovica, exploring the city's unique social and historical context and discussing the importance of coexistence, communication, and reconciliation. Accompanied by a local guide, the group gained deeper insight into the history, social dynamics, and contemporary realities of the city.

🕊️ The group then traveled to the Memorial House of the Poklek Massacre, where they learned about the tragic events that took place during the Kosovo war and reflected on the importance of preserving memory and honoring victims.

🏛️ Finally, participants visited Prizren, experiencing the city's rich cultural heritage and multicultural character.

💬 Through open discussions, shared experiences, guided learning, and visits to significant sites, young people had the opportunity to deepen their understanding of different perspectives, challenge stereotypes, and strengthen connections across communities.

🎥🇮🇹 Stories, connections, and a few unforgettable days in Rome.

🌈As part of the ECHOES project, our group from Kosovo joined participants and partners from across Europe for the residency phase of a journey centered around digital storytelling, creativity, and youth participation.

✍️Through workshops, shared experiences, and countless conversations, we explored how stories can become powerful tools for self-expression, visibility, and social change. We learned not only how to tell stories through digital media, but also how to create spaces where different voices can be heard, respected, and amplified.

Between sessions, walks through Rome, coffee breaks, and moments of reflection, we built friendships, exchanged perspectives, and discovered new ways of understanding ourselves and each other.

✨ Every story leaves an echo. This was just the beginning.

Ju ftojmë të merrni pjesë në “Në Ikje”, një ekspozitë e gjallë performuese që sjell rrëfime të drejtpërdrejta mbi përvojat e zhvendosjes së detyruar gjatë luftës në Kosovë.

Ngjarja vendos në qendër zërat e njerëzve që kanë përjetuar largimin nga shtëpitë e tyre, pasigurinë e rrugëtimit dhe jetën në kushte të përkohshme, duke i shndërruar këto dëshmi në një akt të përbashkët kujtese dhe dëgjimi. Përmes interpretimit të fragmenteve autentike nga Muzeu Virtual i Refugjatëve, këto rrëfime marrin një formë të re, jo si kujtime të largëta, por si përvoja që afrohen, prekin dhe vazhdojnë të rezonojnë në të tashmen.

“Në Ikje” nuk synon vetëm të tregojë, por të krijojë një hapësirë ku publiku përfshihet emocionalisht dhe mendërisht në procesin e kujtesës. Është një ftesë për të ndalur ritmin e përditshmërisë dhe për t’u përballur me fragmente jete që flasin për humbjen, qëndrueshmërinë dhe dinjitetin njerëzor në kohë krize.
Në këtë format të gjallë, fjala e folur shndërrohet në medium kujtese, ndërsa hapësira bëhet një vend i përkohshëm i reflektimit kolektiv ku historia nuk mbetet vetëm e kaluar, por merr prani të re përmes aktit të dëgjimit.

Pozivamo vas da prisustvujete događaju „U begu“, živoj performativnoj izložbi koja donosi neposredna svedočenja o iskustvima prisilnog raseljavanja tokom rata na Kosovu.

Događaj stavlja u središte glasove ljudi koji su doživeli napuštanje svojih domova, neizvesnost p**a i život u privremenim uslovima, pretvarajući ova svedočanstva u zajednički čin sećanja i slušanja. Kroz interpretaciju autentičnih fragmenata iz Virtuelnog muzeja izbeglica, ove priče dobijaju novi oblik — ne kao daleka sećanja, već kao iskustva koja nam se približavaju, dotiču nas i nastavljaju da odjekuju u sadašnjosti.

„U begu“ nema za cilj samo da ispriča priče, već da stvori prostor u kojem se publika emocionalno i misaono uključuje u proces sećanja. To je poziv da zastanemo u ritmu svakodnevice i suočimo se sa fragmentima života koji govore o gubitku, istrajnosti i ljudskom dostojanstvu u vremenima krize.

U ovom živom formatu, izgovorena reč postaje medij sećanja, dok prostor postaje privremeno mesto kolektivnog promišljanja, gde istorija ne ostaje samo prošlost, već kroz čin slušanja dobija novo prisustvo.

ON THE RUN

We invite you to take part in “On the Run”, a live performative exhibition that brings direct narratives about experiences of forced displacement during the war in Kosovo.

The event places at the center the voices of people who have experienced leaving their homes, the uncertainty of the journey, and life in temporary conditions, turning these testimonies into a shared act of memory and listening. Through the interpretation of authentic fragments from the Virtual Museum of Refugees, these narratives take a new form, not as distant memories, but as experiences that come closer, are felt, and continue to resonate in the present.

“On the Run” does not aim only to tell, but to create a space where the public is emotionally and mentally involved in the process of memory. It is an invitation to stop the rhythm of everyday life and to confront fragments of life that speak about loss, resilience, and human dignity in times of crisis.

In this live format, spoken word becomes a medium of memory, while space becomes a temporary place of collective reflection where history does not remain only in the past, but gains a new presence through the act of listening.

Regional Forum of Human Rights Defenders

We had the privilege of bringing together human rights defenders, representatives of national institutions, civil society organizations, journalists, and international partners from across the Western Balkans and beyond for the Regional Forum of Human Rights Defenders.🤝🌍

Through inspiring keynote addresses, engaging panel discussions, and practical sessions, participants explored the current trends and challenges facing human rights defenders, the implementation of the UN Declaration on Human Rights Defenders, the role of national institutions in protecting civic space, risk assessment and security, and the importance of regional cooperation and joint advocacy.

The Forum reaffirmed a shared commitment to protecting and strengthening civic space, promoting solidarity, and ensuring that those who stand up for human rights receive the support and protection they deserve. From meaningful exchanges to new partnerships, these two days demonstrated that regional cooperation remains one of our strongest tools in advancing human rights and democratic values.

A heartfelt thank you to all speakers, moderators, participants, and partners who contributed to making this Forum a success.

Special appreciation goes to the Ombudsperson Institution of the Republic of Kosovo for the partnership and hosting of the welcome reception, and to UNMIK/OHCHR for supporting this initiative.

Together, we continue to stand with human rights defenders and work towards a more just, democratic, and resilient region.
