Week of Women

Week of Women Week of Women is an annual event that began in 2012, implemented by NDI Kosovo.

Week of Women (WoW) is an annual nationwide event that gathers, in a multi-ethnic setting, more than 120 women and men from political parties, civil society, business, media, and academia, with the aim of expanding the capacities of local women leaders skilled to assume greater leadership positions. Over the past eleven years, WoW has become a critical venue for policy debate and intensive discuss

ion with leading politicians and elected officials. It enables participants to hold their representatives to account while simultaneously advancing, and shining a spotlight on women’s leadership.

This May, brought together 179 participants from 38 municipalities for 5 policy debates focused on the local issues that matter most.

Across five policy debates, local leaders, institutions, political parties, civil society, media, businesses and community voices explored practical solutions to:

👥 Strengthen care and social protection
🏘️ Expand access to social housing
💼 Promote women's economic inclusion
🗳️ Increase women's meaningful participation in local democracy
🌿 Create safer, more accessible communities for all

These conversations reinforced a shared understanding: inclusive local governance is built through partnership, collaboration and action. The voices and insights shared throughout the week will continue to guide efforts to advance more responsive and participatory governance, where everyone has the opportunity to participate, lead and influence.

The final policy debate of this edition took place in 📍Fushë Kosovë, and reflected on how local planning decisions shape the way people experience their communities every day 🏘️

From public spaces to transport and access to services, local actors from seven municipalities in the region reflected on what makes communities safer, more inclusive and more accessible 🚶‍♀️🚲🚌

The discussion emphasized the importance of participatory planning and gender-responsive approaches that reflect real community needs.
