Establishment of the Promotion of Heritage Management (PHM) - West Office based
in Peje/Peć is a result of the regional community initiative provided through the Local
Economic Development component of the European Union /Council of Europe Joint
Project - Support to the Promotion of Cultural Diversity in Kosovo (PCDK). Closely
linked with the PCDK project, the main goal of the Office is
to identify and consider the
most appropriate approaches for development of sustainable regional heritage tourism
strategy . Based on information gathered and considered the PHM-West Office assists in
public awareness campaigns and promotion activities on diversity and heritage of
the region with a focus on heritage tourism. It plays a catalyst role in development
and implementation of regional heritage plan(s) prepared by the local stakeholders in
accordance with current legislation and the expressed interests of the local communities. The PHM-West Office establishes and maintains linkages with local and international
donors, other regions in Kosovo and central authorities in order to promote the
protection, maintenance and effective management of heritage assets in the region. Through ongoing monitoring, assessment and increased community involvement, the
office plays coordination role in ensuring active involvement of stakeholders in Heritage
Plan(s) activities.
