🔥 Landscape fires in 🇽🇰 pose increasing risks due to climate change, human activities, and socio-economic factors. Despite being one of the region's smaller countries, Kosovo faces significant challenges related to landscape fire management.
🌳 Key concerns include high rural population density, insufficient fire risk mapping, and the accumulation of combustible vegetation in forests and wooded lands. Human activities, such as agriculture and unmanaged land use, often act as ignition sources, compounding the risk. But efforts are underway to address these issues.
🏞️ The Landscape Fire Management in the Western Balkans (LFMWB) emphasizes cross-sectoral cooperation and capacity building which are much needed and recommended in Kosovo`s response to solving the landscape fires. Key priorities for Kosovo include enhancing public awareness, strengthening national LFM network, and fostering collaboration among regional stakeholders to create resilient landscapes capable of mitigating the adverse impacts of fires. Such initiatives not only aim to reduce landscape fire risks but also support sustainable forest management and environmental protection.
