Calling all young innovators!

Are you ready to tackle global challenges like land degradation and climate change? In celebration of the 2026 International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists (IYRP), FAO China and the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS) are officially launching the 2026 Youth Hackathon!

We are calling on young people (ideally ages 18-40) to harness their creativity and propose integrated, systems-oriented solutions for sustainable grassland management.

Participants can submit their ideas under one of three innovation tracks: new technologies, applying data analytics, AI algorithms and biotech to make grassland stewardship more efficient; new patterns, designing novel collaborative frameworks, partnerships and equitable business models; and new services, developing human-centred platforms and support systems that directly benefit pastoralists and local cultures.

Winning teams will receive:
๐Ÿ”น a joint certificate from the FAO Representative Office in China and CAAS;
๐Ÿ”น opportunities for in-depth mentorship, startup coaching, and media exposure;
๐Ÿ”น recommendations to pursue a master's or doctoral degree at CAAS; and
๐Ÿ”น priority for internship opportunities at the CAAS Center for International Agricultural Research (CIAR).

Application deadline: 19 July 2026

How to apply: send your team's Application Form, Innovation Solution (Project Proposal + PowerPoint Presentation), and a 5-minute Video Presentation to [email protected].

Three forestry officers from Samoa have successfully completed an intensive training programme in Suva, Fiji!

From 25 to 29 May, the Samoa Forestry Division team worked closely with the Ministry of Forestry Fiji to learn practical, hands-on sustainable teak and pine management. This bilateral exchange covered essential skills like nursery propagation, mechanical harvesting, and biosecurity.

The team is bringing this knowledge straight back to Samoa to manage priority tree species, build long-term climate resilience, and support local livelihoods.

Did you know that after water, tea is the most consumed drink in the world? But it is much more than just a comforting beverage.

This yearโ€™s theme, "Sustaining Tea, Supporting Communities," highlights the vital role the global tea sector plays in:
๐Ÿ”น supporting the livelihoods of over 13 million people;
๐Ÿ”น empowering smallholder farmers, especially women; and
๐Ÿ”น driving socio-economic development in rural communities.

From field to cup, sustainable tea production is essential for both people and the planet.
