💧 COMMISSIONING OF WATER SYSTEMS IN TASIRIKI, IPAYATO AND BUTMUS 💧

ADRA Vanuatu is thrilled to celebrate the official commissioning and handing over of water systems in Tasiriki, Ipayato and Butmus.

These three communities are among the 11 communities in Sanma Province that ADRA’s SHAPE project is working in for the last 5 years implementing WASH, HEALTH, AGRICULTURE, GENDER, CLIMATE CHANGE AND ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT activities . SHAPE Project is funded by the New Zealand Government’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT) and supported by Latter-day Saints Charities (LDSC).

The water system in these three communities will benefit 1,456 people from 342 households, improving access to safe, reliable and sustainable water.

Tasiriki Water-System Upgrade

The upgraded system will benefit 520 people from 104 households.

💧 Relocation and improvement of the water source
💧 Installation of 4.3 kilometres of 63 mm poly pipe
💧 Construction of two 22,500-litre concrete water-storage tanks
💧 Construction of a new rainwater-harvesting system as an Storage of security (SOS)
💧 Construction of two flush toilets

Ipayato Water-System Upgrade

The upgraded system will benefit 850 people from 219 households.

💧 Construction of two new 22,500-litre concrete water-storage tanks to support the existing 22,500-litre tank
💧 Installation of 63 mm poly pipe within the community, extending water services to households that could not access water through the old system
💧 Construction of one new rainwater-harvesting system as an SOS system

Butmus New Water System

The new system will benefit 86 people from 19 households.

💧 Construction of a new water-supply system using a hydraulic ram pump
💧 Construction of a new rainwater-harvesting system has an SOS system for the community

Special appreciation goes to the community leaders, Water Committees and community members for their hard work, active participation and commitment throughout the construction process.

As the water systems are officially commissioned, the water committees in each of these community will manage the system while local plumbers will carry out regular maintenance.

🌏✨ Strengthening Partnerships for Disaster Readiness ✨🌏

ADRA Vanuatu was honored to welcome the First Secretary from the, New Zealand High Commission in Vanuatu Holly Peacock and Development Programme Manager Issac Savua to our Santo office.

During the visit, our team showcased the pre‑positioned stock—resources contributed by the New Zealand Government to support communities across Vanuatu in times of disaster.

This engagement reflects the ongoing collaboration between ADRA and our partners, ensuring that when emergencies strike, communities are prepared and hope is within reach.

| ▪️This September, the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) teams from across the South Pacific will come together in Fiji for the KACIVI Regional Kibung; a special gathering focused on connection, collaboration, learning and mission.

Meet Norah Dick from ADRA Vanuatu- someone who spent 8 years volunteering with no job title and clear plan, all she had was faith and a willingness to serve. Today, 11 years into humanitarian work, she's helped transform communities across Santo by serving and believing that change is possible.
