Vanuatu Red Cross Society Sanma Branch Volunteers and staff recently supported an earthquake drill at St. Michael School, helping students and teachers learn what to do before, during, and after an earthquake. The exercise strengthened disaster preparedness, promoted safety awareness, and provided a fun learning experience for over 100 students and school staff.

Last Week, Vanuatu Red Cross Society (VRCS) staff participated in a workshop on the Feedback and Complaints Response Mechanism (FCRM), facilitated by the PIROPS MEAL team.

The session strengthened staff understanding of accountability and the importance of listening and responding to feedback from the communities we serve. Together, we continue to promote transparency, trust, and improved service delivery across Vanuatu.

𝐃𝐚𝐲 3 | 𝐏𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐕𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐀𝐬𝐢𝐚 𝐏𝐚𝐜𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜 2026 – 𝐇𝐚𝐢𝐤𝐨𝐮, 𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐚 🇨🇳

Rebecca Sam, Youth and Volunteer Support Officer of the Vanuatu Red Cross Society (VRCS), presented on "How VRCS Practices Volunteer Appreciation and Recognition."

Her presentation highlighted how VRCS recognizes and celebrates volunteers through both formal and informal methods, the importance of volunteer recognition, its impact on volunteer engagement, and lessons learned from our experiences.

Rebecca concluded her presentation by recognizing the invaluable contribution of VRCS volunteers:

Last month, Vanuatu Red Cross Society Health Coordinator, Jerol Sakita, travelled to the Cook Islands to co-facilitate the Epidemic Control for Volunteers (ECV) Training alongside Liz from the New Zealand Red Cross.

The training equipped volunteers with practical skills and knowledge to help prevent the spread of communicable diseases, promote safe health practices, and strengthen community preparedness during outbreaks such as dengue fever.

Through sessions on disease awareness, community action, and risk communication, participants learned how to identify epidemic risks, support affected individuals safely and share lifesaving health messages within their communities.

Vanuatu Red Cross Society is proud to contribute to strengthening health resilience across the Pacific through knowledge sharing, collaboration, and volunteer development.

Vanuatu Red Cross Society (VRCS) is proud to have our Health Coordinator Jerol Sakita and Community-Based Surveillance (CBS) Officer Lola Iavro representing VRCS at the 4th Global Health Security Conference (GHS 2026) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The conference brings together global leaders, researchers, and policymakers to strengthen collaboration on emerging biological threats and public health crises and the One Health approach.

Their participation provides an important opportunity to share experiences from Vanuatu, learn from global best practices, and strengthen partnerships that support healthier and more resilient communities across the Pacific.
