The road to COP31 doesn’t begin when leaders arrive at the conference later this year.

It begins in rooms like the ones opening next week in Bonn.

Over the next two weeks, governments will negotiate some of the most important climate issues facing our region. Climate finance, adaptation, just transition, implementation of Global Stocktake outcomes, and the role of science in climate decision-making are all on the agenda.

For Pacific communities already living with rising seas, stronger storms and increasing climate impacts, these discussions influence the support available to communities, the ambition expected from major emitters, and the pace of action to keep 1.5°C within reach.

With the Pacific preparing to host the Pre-COP ahead of COP31, what happens in Bonn matters more than ever. 🌺

From the Pacific to the world, today is a reminder that even the smallest islands can move the course of history.

What began as a call from Pacific youth, communities, and frontline peoples has now reached the world’s highest court and the United Nations General Assembly.

For generations, Pacific peoples have protected our oceans, lands, cultures, and ways of life while carrying the heaviest burdens of a crisis we did not create. Today’s vote is a recognition that climate justice must be rooted in accountability - to people, to nature, and to future generations.

This moment belongs to every person who refused to let our future be written off.

Now, the world must turn words into action. 🌺

All eyes are on the United Nations General Assembly as the resolution is voted on today.

It's a full circle moment as words etched into this video some 4 years ago still rings true today. Frontline communities are watching. Multilateralism is meant to ben toward justice, and now is as good a time for leaders to deliver.

Whatever the outcome, the call for climate justice is already moving forward, powered by the leadership of frontline peoples who refuse to let their futures be sacrificed.

Will you vote to protect the most vulnerable?

Powerful to hear Jobod’s story, bringing together climate justice, health, culture, lived experience, and the intergenerational perspective that shapes how our region responds to the climate crisis.

Equally inspiring to see the impactful work Jo-Jikum is leading in the Marshall Islands 🇲🇭

At a time when Pacific peoples face escalating pressure on our lands, oceans, and futures, collective regional solidarity is more critical than ever.

We are happy to renew our commitment to this alliance, understanding that the challenges facing our region cannot be met in isolation. When people move together, our collective voice becomes harder to ignore ✊🏽

: The Pacific Network on Globalisation welcomes the renewal of the Pacific Regional Non-Governmental Organisation Alliance, marked by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding yesterday.

As part of the , PANG remains committed to working collectively to advance shared priorities across the region, including trade justice, climate resilience, and strengthening community voices.

“After 26 years, this renewed commitment is a testament to the work of non-state actors and civil society organisations in informing and implementing regionalism," stated PRNGO Alliance Chair and PANG Coordinator, Joey Tau.

The Trump administration is pushing to open Pacific territorial waters -around American Samoa 🇦🇸, Guam 🇬🇺, and the Northern Mariana Islands 🇲🇵 - to deep-sea mining for nickel, cobalt, copper, and manganese. These are among the most biodiverse and least understood ecosystems on earth.

The community response has been clear. More than 60,000 petitions, letters and comments have been submitted in opposition.

This moment also speaks of power and participation.

People in these territories cannot vote in US presidential elections. Their congressional delegates cannot vote on the floor. Decisions are shaping their ocean while their voices are not fully represented in those spaces.

Pacific waters are not empty spaces. They hold culture, identity, livelihoods and life itself. The future of these waters must be guided by the people who belong to them 🌊
