Athletics Tafea Completes Refresher Training Ahead of TISSA Games

Athletics Tafea has successfully conducted a two-day refresher training program for teachers in preparation for the upcoming TISSA Games. The training focused on equipping teachers with practical knowledge and officiating skills, ensuring they are ready to guide and train students during the competition. The training was led by Mr. Moses Kamut, the current 100m record holder and Tafea Sports Development Officer. His expertise brought both inspiration and practical guidance to the sessions, ensuring participants gained valuable knowledge in preparation for the upcoming competitions.

Congratulations to Athletics Tafea for organizing and delivering this important refresher course.

Claudie David Wins Vanuatu’s First Gold at the Oceania Athletics Championships
History has been made in Darwin. Claudie David has secured Vanuatu’s first gold medal of the 2026 Oceania Athletics Championships, powering to victory in the U20 Women’s 100 m in 12.77 sec.

This achievement is even more meaningful considering her recent return from injury.

Other Strong Performances Across the Team
Alongside Claudie’s gold‑medal run, the rest of the Vanuatu squad delivered impressive results, with several athletes achieving sessions bests on the regional stage:

Jimmy Jenika (U20 Men’s 100 m) — 11.77 sec (PB)
A confident performance from a young athlete who continues to improve with every meet.

Philip Nausian (Senior Men’s 100 m) — 11.22 sec (SB), (Senior Men's 200m) - 22.91 sec (SB)
A breakthrough run that shows Philip is building after returning from injury.

Chloe David (Senior Women’s 100 m) — 12.70 sec (SB)
A composed and technically strong race, marking her sessions best time this year.

Claudie David (Senior Women’s 100 m) — 12.79 sec
Backing up her U20 gold with another solid performance in the senior category

The team’s campaign isn’t over yet. Jimmy Jenika will return to the track tomorrow for the U20 Men’s 400 m, the final event for Vanuatu at these championships.

These young athletes are indeed fortunate — moments like this don’t happen often, and they carry a significance that goes far beyond a simple photo opportunity.

Meeting the President of World Athletics is more than an honour; it’s a powerful reminder that the global athletics community sees potential in emerging nations and young talents like these. Encounters like this can ignite ambition, strengthen confidence, and show athletes that their dreams are not only valid but visible on the world stage.

It also reflects positively on Athletics Vanuatu’s growing presence. When leaders at the highest level take time to engage with our athletes, it signals respect for the work being done at home — the training, the discipline, the sacrifices, and the federation’s commitment to development.

For the athletes themselves, this kind of interaction can become a lifelong motivator. It tells them that they belong in these international spaces, that their journey is recognised, and that the pathway from Vanuatu to the world is real and achievable.
